Dionne Warwick has filed for bankruptcy in the US after amounting debts of almost $10 million in taxes since 1991.
Dionne Warwick’s liabilities include nearly $7 million owed to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from 1991 to 1999 and more than $3 million in business taxes owed to the state of California, where she lives.
The singer has sold more than 100 million records since the 1960s.
Dionne Warwick’s publicist said she had been the victim of poor financial management.

He added that the 72-year-old singer had paid back the actual amount of the taxes but not penalties and interest that had accumulated over the years.
In documents filed in her home state of New Jersey this month, Dionne Warwick listed about $21,000 in monthly income and a similar amount in monthly expenses.
Her publicist said she had “repeatedly attempted to offer re-payment plans and proposals to the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board for taxes owed”.
Dionne Warwick, cousin of the late Whitney Houston, won her first of five Grammy awards in 1968 with Do You Know The Way To San Jose?.
The second award came two years later, for the album I’ll Never Fall In Love Again.
Dionne Warwick has sold more than 100 million records and has enjoyed more charts hits than almost any other female singer.
Last March, Dionne Warwick celebrated 50 years in show business with a special event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

Songwriter Hal David, who wrote dozens of hits with collaborator Burt Bacharach, has died at the age of 91.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers said he had died in Los Angeles from complications from a stroke.
Hal David had a lengthy career writing lyrics to go along with Burt Bacharach’s tunes.
The pair wrote a string of hits for Dionne Warwick, including Walk On By, and co-wrote songs for films including Alfie and Casino Royale.
His wife, Eunice David, told the Associated Press news agency that he had suffered a major stroke in March and was stricken again on Tuesday.
“Even at the end, Hal always had a song in his head,” she said.
“He was always writing notes, or asking me to take a note down, so he wouldn’t forget a lyric.”

Hal David won two Oscars for his work on the soundtrack for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid – one for best music, and the other for the song Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head.
Both awards were shared with Burt Bacharach.
The pair were nominated for three other Oscars and won many other awards for their soundtracks.
Hal David’s work was performed by a huge array of artists over the decades, including Perry Como, Louis Armstrong, the Carpenters and Sandie Shaw.
In 2011, Hal David and Burt Bacharach were awarded the Gershwin Prize for popular song by the US Library of Congress, the first time a songwriting team has been given the honor.

Dionne Warwick, Whitney Houston’s cousin, is opening up to Entertainment Tonight about the singer’s death and reveals what she thinks killed the pop superstar.
When asked what she expects to hear when authorities issue a final cause of death for Whitney Houston following the results of toxicology tests, Dionne Warwick said: “You know, in all honesty, I think she had a heart attack, that’s what I think happened to her.”
Dionne Warwick, 71, also spoke about the feelings she had while accompanying Whitney Houston’s body aboard the plane that transported the Grammy winner back to her native New Jersey.
“It was a combination of things, stories, laughter, tears. All the emotions that you feel when somebody very near to you passes.”

When asked about possible drug use playing a role, Dionne Warwick added: “I don’t know if it’s that or not. I think her heart just gave out.”
