Cher has decided to cancel the remainder of her Dressed to Kill tour after doctors advised she needed more time to recover from an ongoing viral infection.
Cher, 68, said she was “devastated”.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” the singer said in a statement.
“I sincerely hope that we can come back again next year and finish what we started,” she added.
A total of 29 dates were cancelled, including shows in New York, Boston, Chicago and Toronto.
Cher began her D2K tour in March, with a scheduled break in July.
Opening to rave reviews, the initial run of 49 sell-out shows made a reported $54.9 million, putting Cher on course to have one of the highest-grossing tours of the year.
The second leg of the tour was due to kick off in New York on September 11, but was postponed after Cher was “felled by an infection that affected her kidney function”.
On November, Cher announced “with enormous regret” the cancellation of all remaining dates.
“While her progress has been consistent, Cher’s doctors have advised her to take more time to ensure and complete and total recovery,” said the announcement on Cher’s official website.
“I cannot apologize enough to all the fans who bought tickets,” Cher said, in her statement.
“I’m so proud of this show. It is my best ever.”
Cher tweeted: “I’m SORRY I Couldn’t B the 1 to tell you about postponing my tour. I Tried SO HARD 2b Strong enough, but my Will couldn’t force my Body time.”
A later tweet referred to the “gut-wrenching sadness of not being able to go on stage”.
Earlier this year, Cher insisted D2K was her final tour. It came nearly a decade after her previous swansong, the Living Proof Farewell tour, in 2005.
Refunds for tickets to the cancelled shows will be available at the point of purchase.

Cher’s latest tour, Dressed To Kill, is on course to become the highest-grossing tour, so far, of 2014.
The tour has made a reported $54.9 million during its first leg, which ended last weekend, according to Billboard Boxscore.
Dressed To Kill is Cher’s first tour since her Living Proof Farewell tour, which ended in 2005 after playing 325 shows around the world over three years.
The second leg of the current tour kicks off in New York on September 11.

So far Cher has played 49 sell-out shows across the US, to more than 610,000 fans. Tickets are priced between $61-$560.
A show in Las Vegas on May 25 at MGM’s Grand Garden Arena has proved the most lucrative venue, earning $1.75 million.
Cher, 68, has insisted it is her final tour, nearly a decade on from her previous swansong tour.
“I’m never going to come back, I swear to God,” she said, ahead of a gig at Los Angeles’ Staples Center last week.
“What’s your granny doing tonight?” she added.
The tour marries extravagant reprisals of classic hits such as Believe and If I Could Turn Back Time with more contemporary tracks from her most recent album, Closer to the Truth.
Bon Jovi had the biggest international music tour of the year in 2013, playing to more than two million fans during 90 sell-out shows and grossing $205 million.

According to new reports, Cher and Bruce Jenner, who have been “friend since the ’70s”, recently started “texting and talking nonstop” and have “grown extremely close.”

“WHY DO PPL THINK THIS KINDA LEAKING S**T IS OK ! I’m so Fg DISSAPOINTED.”

While Lady Gaga was also undoubtedly unimpressed by the early leak, she did take to Twitter later in the day to thank Cher for having her back.
In a message re-tweeted by Cher, Lady Gaga wrote: “I love you @cher ! Thank you for the support, you’re the greatest thing!”
Speaking recently about her upcoming album, Cher compared it to one of her biggest hit records – 1998’s Believe.
She said: “It’s about being fabulous. Truthfully, I’m not a huge Cher fan and I’ve said this many times, but I think this is the best album I’ve ever done.
“The songs are so brilliant. I got so lucky. The closest thing to this album I think is the Believe album.”
Meanwhile, it’s been a less than successful week for Lady Gaga when it comes to her tracks being leaked.
On Monday she was forced to release her new single Applause a whole week before its intended premiere after it was leaked online.
Declaring a “POP MUSIC EMERGENCY”, Lady Gaga decided to beat the leakers and release the track to fans early.
And Cher was on hand to offer Lady Gaga some much-needed support as she struggled to contain her frustration over the leak.

Chaz Bono initially used Freshology delivered-meal but now prepares food himself, saying: “I cook a lot of different stuff.
“I really avoid grains and starches, so meats and vegetables and fruits are my diet. I make them all different ways to keep it interesting.”

Almost 500,000 people have signed an online petition requesting that Macy’s ends it association with Donald Trump.
Macy’s, which exclusively sells Donald Trump’s clothing line and fragrance, has also made him central to its just launched Christmas advertising campaign.
The petition at SignOn.org says Macy’s should break with Donald Trump because of his “especially unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior”.
“Donald Trump does not reflect the <<magic of Macy’s>>. We urge you to sever ties with him,” the petition reads.
Cher is amongst those who has signed the petition. She has called Donald Trump a “loudmouth, racist cretin” over his criticism of Barack Obama.
“I’ll NEVER GO TO MACY’S AGAIN! I didn’t know they sold Donald Trump’s Line!” she wrote on Twitter.
Donald Trump had yet to personally addressed the petition on his Twitter feed, but made a point of tweeting about his Macy’s-stocked clothing line and fragrance.
“My fragrance – <<Success>> – is flying off the shelves @Macys. The perfect Christmas gift!” he wrote.

Chaz Bono has performed last night at Dancing With The Stars being watched by his mother, Cher, who was for the first time in the show audience.
The proud mother, Cher, broke down in tears as she watching her son Chaz Bono, 40, comes out fighting to dance the Paso Doble with his partner Lacey Schwimmer to the Rocky theme song.
“OMG! I WAS CRYING ! WASNT EXPECTING 2 B SO NERVOUS ! BROKE MY BRACELET CLAPPING ! IM SO PROUD !! CHAZ WAS GREAT! LOVED DAVID ARQUETTE 2nd,” Cher tweeted on her page after the show.
Not only Cher was impressed with Chaz Bono’s performance, the judges also gave him straight seven’s across the board during music from the Rocky movie.

Judge Bruno Tonioli said: “In the true spirit of Rocky, no matter how many knocks you take, you keep coming back, you keep fighting and you keep getting stronger.”
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba agreed and said of Chaz Bono’ performance:
“I’m trying to figure out why I’m crying. It’s like, I watch you and somehow you get under my skin and you make me root for you.
“Your true courage and the way you get out there…I was like, go! Go! Go!”

The talk show host Nancy Grace, 51, and her partner Tristan MacManus performed the Paso Doble to the theme song from Flash Gordon.

Soccer star Hope Solo and partner Chmerkovskiy performance of You’ve Got A Friend from Toy Story was utterly adorable and had a high score of 24.
Rob Kardashian played Clark Kent role as he and partner Cheryl Burke danced a dramatic Paso Doble to the theme song from Superman.
DWTS insiders said that Ricki Lake and partner Derek Hough are the team to beat, but the 43-year-old talk show host doesn’t agree.
She seemed to have problems in rehearsals, saying that she felt a ‘tremendous amount of pressure’ and expressing her desire to quit.
When Ricki and Derek danced to the theme song from Psycho, they received a standing ovation and scored 29, the highest score of the night.

Chaz’s upcoming appearance on the beloved reality show has drawn both harsh criticism as well as inspired defenses. Chaz’s mother, pop icon Cher, took to Twitter to express her thoughts on those attacking Chaz across the internet.
Cher has criticized the “stupid bigots” who have attacked the casting of her transgender son on US show Dancing With The Stars.
“Chaz is being viciously attacked on blogs and messageboards about being on DWTS!” Cher said via her Twitter page.
Cher also urged fans to pledge their support for Bono on other social media sites.
“I support him no matter what he chooses to do. It took courage to do DWTS!”
She added that “mothers don’t stop getting angry with stupid bigots” who hurt their children, but said she was sure the “vast majority of people will love Chaz” on the show.
Chaz Bono replied to the comments on his Twitter page saying:
“Thanks for all your support mom. The haters are just motivating me to work harder and stay on DWTS as long as I possibly can.”
Chaz Bono, 42, has been the target of online jokes and hate messages since Monday’s announcement that he would be taking part in the new series of Dancing with the Stars, which begins on 19 September.
Some fans have said they will no longer watch the show – which is one of the most popular programmes in the US – while he is a contestant, while some conservative groups have called for a boycott.
Dan Gainor, of the Culture and Media Institute, called Chaz Bono’s casting “a ridiculous, agenda-driven move” by the show’s producers.
“This is the latest example of the networks trying to push a sexual agenda on American families,” he said.
However, Dancing With The Stars’ executive producer Conrad Green said viewers should watch the new series before passing judgment.
He added the show had no agenda other than entertainment and was seeking to represent a range of people.
“I hope that a lot of the people who appear to be upset at the moment will give him a chance and maybe realise it’s not quite as bad as they think,” he said, in an interview with AP.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation praised the casting of both Bono and gay TV stylist Carson Kressley on the show, calling it “a primetime first.”
“Chaz Bono joining the cast of a series like Dancing with the Stars is a tremendous step forward for the public to recognise that transgender people are another wonderful part of the fabric of American culture,” Herndon Graddick, senior director of programmes, said.
