Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, whose affair with President Bill Clinton lead to his impeachment in the US Senate, has broken her long silence in the media.
In Vanity Fair magazine, Monica Lewinsky, now 40, writes that she deeply regrets the fling.
President Bill Clinton “took advantage” of her, Monica Lewinsky writes, though she describes their relationship as consensual.
In 1998, Republicans failed in their effort to oust him from office on the grounds he had lied about the affair.
With Hillary Clinton said to be mulling a 2016 run for the presidency, the Lewinsky matter has remerged in US political discourse, in part because Republicans are eager to wield it against her.
In an advance excerpt of the article released by Vanity Fair, Monica Lewinsky writes she hopes to reclaim her story and says she is still recognized every day and sees her name thrown about in pop culture and the news media.
Monica Lewinsky’s affair with President Bill Clinton lead to his impeachment in the US Senate
“I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton,” Monica Lewinsky writes.
“Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.”
Monica Lewinsky writes that she suffered abuse and humiliation after the scandal broke in 1998, in part because she was made a “scapegoat” to protect the president.
“The Clinton administration, the special prosecutor’s minions, the political operatives on both sides of the aisle, and the media were able to brand me,” she wrote.
“And that brand stuck, in part because it was imbued with power.”
Arguing Bill Clinton had lied to federal investigators about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, who was in her early 20s, the Republicans in the House of Representatives impeached the president, essentially bringing him up on charges in the Senate to determine whether he could be expelled from office.
That effort failed, and Bill Clinton served in the White House until his term ended in 2000.
Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, went on to be elected US senator and to serve as secretary of state under President Barack Obama, and is currently tipped as a frontrunner for the Democratic 2016 presidential nomination.
The Republicans have indicated recently that Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky will be fair game should Hillary Clinton indeed run.
Republican Senator Rand Paul – also tipped to run for the presidency in 2016 – said this year that “bosses shouldn’t prey on young interns in their office”.
Bill Clinton “took advantage of a girl that was 20-years-old and an intern in his office”, Rand Paul added.
“There is no excuse for that and that is predatory behavior.”
In her piece, Monica Lewinsky signals that her desire in breaking her silence after so many years is to “give a purpose” to her past.
“Perhaps by sharing my story, I reasoned, I might be able to help others in their darkest moments of humiliation,” she writes.
Monica Lewinsky now aims “to get involved with efforts on behalf of victims of online humiliation and harassment and to start speaking on this topic in public forums”.

Chelsea Clinton announced that she is pregnant during a speech in New York City with her mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, at her side.
“Marc and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year,” Chelsea Clinton said at the Lower East Side Girls Club at the end of a Clinton Foundation event dedicated to empowering young girls.
Chelsea Clinton, 34, did not say if she and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, are having a boy or a girl.
However, Chelsea Clinton later tweeted that her due date is sometime this fall.

“I certainly feel all the better whether it’s a girl or a boy that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong, young female leaders,” she told the audience full of young women.
“So thank you for inspiring me.”
Hillary Clinton connected the announcement to the focus of the day’s event, telling the crowd that she is not only excited for her family but for the future generations who may not have to face the same glass ceilings as she did.
“Obviously we are very excited about what’s happening in our family,” Hillary Clinton told the young women.
“But we’re also very excited because of what we’re doing that we hope gives confidence and support to so many of you across our country as you make decisions about the lives you want to lead and try to make sure there are no ceilings that are stopping you from going as far and as high and as fast as you can.”
Chelsea’s parents, Bill and Hillary Clinton, both responded on Twitter shortly after the announcement Thursday afternoon.

Chelsea Clinton has told US media she has not ruled out a political run in the future.
She made the announcement at a public event with her mother in New York organized by a Clinton Foundation initiative to advance the cause of women and girls around the world.
“Mark and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving,” Chelsea Clinton said.
“I certainly feel all the better whether it’s a girl or a boy that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong young female leaders,” she added.
“I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child… as my mother was to me.”
Hillary Clinton is currently considered a strong contender for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, although she has yet to announce her intent to run.

Hillary Clinton told college students during a Clinton Global Initiative University forum at Arizona State University in Tempe on Saturday that she is “very much concerned about the direction of our country” but was still deciding whether to pursue another presidential campaign.
Hillary Clinton fielded a question from Vrinda Agrawal, a student at the University of California, Berkeley who asked: “If you don’t represent women in politics in America as a future president, who will?”
More than 1,000 students roared with approval and applauded while former President Bill Clinton smiled, whispered into TV host Jimmy Kimmel’s ear and clapped along.
The former first lady said she appreciated the sentiment but was still deciding.
“I am very much concerned about the direction of our country and it’s not just who runs for office but what they do when they get there and how we bring people together and particularly empower young people so we can tackle these hard decisions,” Hillary Clinton said.

Jimmy Kimmel playfully interjected: “She wants an answer!”
Hillary Clinton smiled and asked the woman to “give me your name and number.”
The woman responded: “I will proudly run your campaign!”
Hillary Clinton said she was “obviously thinking about all kinds of decisions”.
The exchange came during a wide-ranging interview of the Clintons and their 34-year-old daughter, Chelsea. The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live jokingly asked Hillary Clinton: “If you do run for president, will you reuse the old Clinton campaign lawn signs?”
The interview covered light topics like how the Clintons met at Yale Law School, the family’s favorite TV shows – former President Bill Clinton said they enjoyed PBS’s Antiques Roadshow – along with their upbringing and policy issues.
Diving into the thorny issue of climate change, Hillary Clinton said young people understand the significant threat of global warming and that she hoped there would be a mass movement that demands political change.
Hillary Clinton said the generation of college students and young people are much more committed to doing something to address climate change and it wasn’t “just some ancillary issue” but will determine the quality of life for countries around the globe.
“I’m hoping there will be this mass movement that demands political change, that makes what public officials do on dealing with carbon emissions … a voting issue,” Hillary Clinton said.

Another 4,000 pages of records from President Bill Clinton’s White House period have been released by the US National Archive.
The newly released records include edited versions of President Bill Clinton’s remarks to the nation after the 2000 election recount and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s speech to the Democratic National Convention that year.

Another document from an adviser to Vice President Al Gore offers instructions on how to respond to a January 1999 poll in USA Today that showed candidate George W. Bush leading Gore. The adviser urged Al Gore aides to “UNDERSPIN it and downplay its significance”.
This is the second batch of President Bill Clinton records to be released in recent weeks. The documents are being closely watched as former first lady and secretary of state Hillary Clinton considers another presidential bid in 2016.
Explosive secret documents have revealed that Hillary Clinton claimed that President Bill Clinton didn’t have a relationship of “any real meaning” with Monica Lewinsky and the former White House intern was a “narcissistic loony toon”.
Hillary Clinton made the frank remarks to her best friend in 1998 as the American public reeled from Monica Lewinsky’s claims of nine meetings with the president in the Oval Office.
Days after the news of the affair broke, Hillary Clinton stood stone-faced beside the president as he vehemently denied any such liaisons took place at a press conference.

Hillary Clinton later wrote in her autobiography that in reality she felt “dumbfounded, heartbroken and outraged” at finding out her husband had lied to her and the public – an act that ultimately led to his impeachment in later that year.
The documents can now be revealed that Hillary Clinton told best friend Diane Blair that Bill Clinton was driven to infidelity in part by his political adversaries, the loneliness of the presidency, and her own failures as a wife.
The revelations come in a collection of letters and notes by adviser Diane Blair, a political science professor Hillary Clinton described as her “closest friend” before Blair’s death in 2000.
The letters have only come to light today after the Washington Free Beacon published them.
The archive includes correspondence, diaries, interviews, strategy memos, and contemporaneous accounts of conversations with the Clintons ranging from the mid-1970s to the turn of the millennium.

Monica Lewinsky, the White House intern whose affair with President Bill Clinton nearly got him kicked out of office, has made a point of declining interviews as she builds a new life.
During time, Monica Lewinsky, now 40, declined many interviews from the press, including TIME in 2009.
Her friend and former publicist, Barbara Hutson, explained that Monica Lewinsky was attempting, as best as possible, to avoid any publicity.

The New York Post reported last year, however, that Monica Lewinsky was rumored to be shopping around a $12 million dollar book deal – which promised to reveal a more salacious, detailed account of her illicit encounters with President Bill Clinton. The rumors alone have sparked a flurry of speculation about the resurrection of the scandal.
“Monica Lewinsky is Back” read a September 2012 headline in the New York Observer, echoing 15 years of headlines on the evergreen intern.

Monica Samille Lewinsky was born in San Francisco, California, on July 23, 1973.
Monica Lewinsky, now 40, was raised in the affluent neighborhoods of Brentwood and Beverly Hills, in Southern California. Her father, Bernard Lewinsky, is an oncologist, and her mother, Marcia Kaye Vilensky, is an author who publishes under the name Marcia Lewis. The Lewinskys divorced in 1988.
After graduating from college, Monica Lewinsky took an internship and then a job at the White House. During the period from mid-1995 to 1997, Monica Lewinsky was involved in a s**ual relationship with then President Bill Clinton. Her taped conversations with Bill Clinton, and subsequent testimony, led to a media frenzy and a political firestorm.
Monica Lewinsky was raised Jewish and attended Sinai Akiba Academy and the John Thomas Dye School in her younger years. She graduated from Bel Air Prep (now Pacific Hills School) in 1991 and attended Santa Monica College while working for the drama department at Beverly Hills High School.
She also began an affair with Andy Bleiler, her married high school drama instructor, around this time. She enrolled at Lewis & Clark College after completing her two-year degree. She graduated with a degree in psychology in 1995.
Through a family friend, Monica Lewinsky secured an internship in the White House office of Chief of Staff Leon Panetta. After her internship ended, Monica Lewinsky accepted a paid position in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs.
She was involved in a romantic relationship with President Bill Clinton between the winter of 1995 and March 1997. The relationship involved nine encounters, some in the Oval Office.
Monica Lewinsky was transferred to the Pentagon in 1997. She confided in an older coworker, Linda Tripp, about her relationship with Bill Clinton. Shortly thereafter, Linda Tripp began secretly recording Monica Lewinsky’s conversations with the president.
Bill Clinton was already burdened with a history of s**ual misconduct allegations, and in 1997, lawyers working on the civil lawsuit filed by Arkansas state employee Paula Jones heard rumors of Monica Lewinsky’s relationship with the president.

Monica Lewinsky submitted a false affidavit denying the affair. It was at this point that Linda Tripp handed over her tapes to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr. President Bill Clinton denied the affair under oath.
News of the Clinton-Lewinsky affair broke in January 1998 and immediately dominated the media. Monica Lewinsky spent weeks in hiding. She later reported that she had spent much of this stressful period knitting. After Kenneth Starr obtained a blue dress of Lewinsky’s stained with Bill Clinton’s se**n, the president admitted to an inappropriate relationship.
Monica Lewinsky’s affair with Bill Clinton made her a pop-culture star.
A Barbara Walters interview in which Monica Lewinsky apologized to the Clintons drew record ratings. She also cooperated with Andrew Morton on a 1999 biography titled Monica’s Story.
Monica Lewinsky experimented with a number of career paths after the scandal. She designed a handbag line, promoted the Jenny Craig weight-loss system and appeared as a television correspondent and host.
In 2002, Monica Lewinsky took audience questions during the taping of the HBO special Monica in Black and White.
Eager to escape the spotlight, Monica Lewinsky moved to London, England, in 2005.
In 2006, she graduated from the London School of Economics with a master’s degree in social psychology.
In 2013, some of Monica Lewinsky’s clothing and personal affects were put up for auction. The items, which had been submitted to the Kenneth Starr investigation in the 1990s, included a black negligee and a letter signed by President Bill Clinton.

During 1995 government shutdown, Monica Lewinsky was allowed to spend some quality time with President Bill Clinton as the non-essential White House staff were sent home and unpaid interns were taking on extra responsibility.
In 1995, the Starr Report describes the events of November 15: “During the shutdown, Ms. Lewinsky worked in Chief of Staff Panetta’s West Wing office, where she answered phones and ran errands. The President came to Mr. Panetta’s office frequently because of the shutdown, and he sometimes talked with Ms. Lewinsky. She characterized these encounters as “continued flirtation.” According to Ms. Lewinsky, a Senior Adviser to the Chief of Staff, Barry Toiv, remarked to her that she was getting a great deal of “face time” with the President.
Ms. Lewinsky testified that Wednesday, November 15, 1995 – the second day of the government shutdown – marked the beginning of her s**ual relationship with the President…”
During 1995 government shutdown, Monica Lewinsky was allowed to spend some quality time with President Bill Clinton
The newspaper also wrote: “According to Ms. Lewinsky, she and the President made eye contact when he came to the West Wing to see Mr. Panetta and Deputy Chief of Staff Harold Ickes, then again later at an informal birthday party for Jennifer Palmieri, Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff. At one point, Ms. Lewinsky and the President talked alone in the Chief of Staff’s office. In the course of flirting with him, she raised her jacket in the back and showed him the straps of her thong underwear, which extended above her pants.
“En route to the restroom at about 8 p.m., she passed George Stephanopoulos’s office. The President was inside alone, and he beckoned her to enter. She told him that she had a crush on him. He laughed, then asked if she would like to see his private office. Through a connecting door in Mr. Stephanopoulos’s office, they went through the President’s private dining room toward the study off the Oval Office. Ms. Lewinsky testified: <<We talked briefly and sort of acknowledged that there had been a chemistry that was there before and that we were both attracted to each other and then he asked me if he could kiss me>>. Ms. Lewinsky said yes. In the windowless hallway adjacent to the study, they kissed. Before returning to her desk, Ms. Lewinsky wrote down her name and telephone number for the President.
“At about 10 p.m., in Ms. Lewinsky’s recollection, she was alone in the Chief of Staff’s office and the President approached. He invited her to rendezvous again in Mr. Stephanopoulos’s office in a few minutes, and she agreed. (Asked if she knew why the President wanted to meet with her, Ms. Lewinsky testified: <<I had an idea.>>) They met in Mr. Stephanopoulos’s office and went again to the area of the private study. This time the lights in the study were off.
“According to Ms. Lewinsky, she and the President kissed.”
Back in October 2013, this won’t happen again, as according to The Hill, White House interns will no longer be allowed to work during government shutdowns.

A Hillary Clinton documentary project has been cancelled after its director Charles Ferguson said political interference had made the film impossible.
In a Huffington Post blog, Charles Ferguson said pressure from Hillary Clinton supporters in the Democratic Party led to many sources shying away.
In August, the opposition Republican Party voted to boycott debates on CNN if the programme went ahead.
It also said it would boycott NBC, which plans a mini-series on Hillary Clinton.
The latter series, still in the early stages of production, is set to star actress Diane Lane as the former First Lady.
Hillary Clinton documentary project has been cancelled after its director Charles Ferguson said political interference had made the film impossible
Hillary Clinton, wife of President Bill Clinton, has been closely watched as a possible contender for the Democratic Party’s 2016 nomination since leaving her position as secretary of state under President Barack Obama in January.
In his blog, Charles Ferguson wrote: “When I approached people for interviews, I discovered that nobody, and I mean nobody, was interested in helping me make this film.
“Not Democrats, not Republicans – and certainly nobody who works with the Clintons, wants access to the Clintons, or dreams of a position in a Hillary Clinton administration.
“After painful reflection, I decided that I couldn’t make a film of which I would be proud. And so I’m cancelling. (Not because of any pressure from CNN – quite the contrary).
“It’s a victory for the Clintons, and for the money machines that both political parties have now become. But I don’t think that it’s a victory for the media, or for the American people.”
The Republican National Committee (RNC) had claimed both the CNN and NBC productions amounted “to little more than extended commercials promoting former Secretary Clinton” and “political ads masked as unbiased entertainment”.
CNN has not commented on the cancellation of the project.

Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have joined forces to promote Obama’s healthcare initiative, known as Obamacare, just days before one of its major provisions takes effect.
In New York, they discussed the law’s progress and denounced Republican efforts to stymie its implementation.
Beginning on October 1st, Americans who lack health insurance will be able to buy policies in online market places.
Barack Obama said opponents were trying to “scare” people from signing up.
Even as conservative groups have undertaken a broad effort to undermine the law by persuading people to ignore it, Barack Obama said he was confident Americans would come to see its advantages.
“When people look and see that they can get high-quality, affordable healthcare for less than their cell phone bill, they’re going to sign up,” Barack Obama said.
The discussion, billed as an interview by Bill Clinton of Barack Obama took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
It was part of the Clinton Global Initiative, a conference featuring Bill Clinton that he has held regularly since leaving the White House in 2001.
Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have joined forces to promote Obamacare
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which Barack Obama’s Democratic Party passed in 2010 in the face of unified Republican opposition, has been the centrepiece of Obama’s domestic policy agenda.
Its provisions include a requirement, which takes effect in January, that individuals who do not have health insurance provided by their employers purchase it on the open market.
On October 1st, online health insurance marketplaces run by the US federal government or by the states will begin accepting customers.
Opposition to the law, which is known to both sides of the debate as Obamacare, has become one of the central tenets of Republican and conservative politics, analysts say.
The House of Representatives, which is controlled by the Republican Party, has held dozens of votes on bills to repeal the law or strip it of funding. The bills have gone nowhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
The law has become a central point in the ongoing budget battle, with some Republicans pushing to shut down the operation of the US government by not passing a new budget if the Democrats refuse to defund the law.
On Friday, the House passed a bill that would prevent a government shutdown – but would strip the healthcare law of its funding. And on Tuesday, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas undertook a marathon speech on the floor of the Senate to denounce the law and demand the government block its implementation.
“Those who have opposed the idea of universal healthcare in the first place and have fought this thing tooth and nail through Congress and through the courts and so forth have been trying to scare and discourage people from getting a good deal,” Barack Obama said.
On Monday, Bill Clinton asked Barack Obama why he had decided to tackle healthcare reform early in his first term, even as the economy was mired in one of the worst downturns since the Great Depression.
Barack Obama said healthcare was a “massive” part of the American economy, and noted the US was the only advanced industrialized nation that permitted “large numbers of its people to languish without health insurance”.
President Barack Obama also accused congressional Republicans of using the “pretty straightforward” issue as political capital as the government hurdles toward a shutdown on October 1st, when the law funding its operation expires.

Former US President Bill Clinton’s journey to the White House was said to have been fuelled by a diet consisting of meat, french fries, sugar and little else.
One insider recalls how Bill Clinton could wolf down six pork chops a day and was known to gobble half a strawberry cake in a single sitting.
Another story tells of an aide having to step in after he bought a dozen doughnuts during a campaign stop in New Hampshire to prevent him polishing off the lot.
Now one cunning former White House chef has revealed how he was able to fool President Clinton by secretly slipping low-fat ingredients into his favorite dishes.
Marty Mongiello was so concerned he might be contributing to the early death of a president that he began experimenting “like a mad scientist” with healthy alternatives.
He began using pureed rice mixed with milk as a substitute for cream, soy paste instead of beef stock, tofu instead of cheese and splenda instead of sugar.
In 1993, First Lady Hillary Clinton became so concerned about her husband’s penchant for junk food, that she brought in diet guru Dr. Dean Ornish to work with the White House chefs who were used to preparing calorie-laden French cuisine.
Together they created a healthy menu with dishes like stir fry vegetables with tofu, and salmon with vegetables.
Bill Clinton’s voracious appetite and love of all things lardy became the stuff of legend
Once after preparing a naughty-looking fettuccine Alfredo starter for the Clintons at Camp David, Marty Mongiello was summoned to the table by concerned Hilary Clinton.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Marty Mongiello recalls a waiter telling him: “She wants to see you out there. Dude, you’re gonna get fired.”
“She said, <<Look, there’s cream, there’s cheese – these things are illegal>>. And I just explained how I made it.”
“Her reaction was: <<Wow, I can’t believe it. We thought those were a thing of the past>>.
“She wasn’t mad or anything, she was just really concerned about her husband’s health.”
Another dish that fooled Bill Clinton was a tofu cheesecake which used egg-whites and low-calorie cream cheese.
Despite the low fat regime Bill Clinton still struggled with his weight during his two terms as president.
At his annual physical in 1999, his physician noted the president had gained 18 lbs in two years.
When Bill Clinton left office his eating habits went downhill and in 2004 he had a quadruple heart bypass and was forced to adjust his diet once again.
Then in 2010 after doctors implanted two stents to open one of the veins from that surgery Bill Clinton adopted a vegan diet and has since lost a reported 24 lbs.
A never-before-heard tape of Monica Lewinsky asking for an illicit meeting with President Bill Clinton has surfaced today.
The tape, which records Monica Lewinsky desperately trying to attract President Bill Clinton into meeting her, was reportedly released to the National Enquirer after it was obtained by a cleaner hired by friends of Lewinsky.
It was long thought that the raunchy four-minute tape, which was recorded in November 1997, had been destroyed after the affair was revealed in 1998, according to the Enquirer.
The recording, made months after their final alleged trust in March 1997, reportedly shows a determined Monica Lewinsky, then 24, pleading with the married president to meet her – and telling him she plans to be persistent because: “I really want to see you.”
Monica Lewinsky adds that she is “too cute and adorable” to be ignored, according to the magazine.
On the recording, Monica Lewinsky offers Bill Clinton two choices – that she could meet him at his office, or that they could watch a movie together.
“Since I know you will be alone tomorrow evening, I have two proposals for you, neither of which is you not seeing me,” Monica Lewinsky says, the National Enquirer reported.
“I could take my clothes off and start… well… I know you wouldn’t enjoy that? I hope to see you later and I hope you will follow my script and do what I want.”
Monica Lewinsky tells Bill Clinton that his secretary, Betty Currie, should plan his schedule so that they could get away with not formally recording the meeting, according to the magazine.
For one plan, Monica Lewinsky instructs the president to tell Betty Currie that he was going to leave the office around 7 p.m. the next evening before returning later that evening.
“In the meantime I quickly sneak over and then we can have a nice little visit for, you know, 15 minutes or half an hour. Whatever you want,” she says.
Monica Lewinsky’s second suggestion is meeting Bill Clinton for a movie “and just have kind of, I don’t know, boxed dinners or something like that”, she says.
The former White House intern adds: “You can’t refuse me because I’m too cute and adorable and soon I won’t be here anymore to pop over.”
Monica Lewinsky tells Bill Clinton that he should tell Betty Currie what he wanted to do so she could call her “so I don’t have to stress out all day and I don’t have to call her every two hours and bug her because, I know you will find this very hard to believe, but I can be a pain in the ass sometimes”.
A never-before-heard tape of Monica Lewinsky asking for an illicit meeting with President Bill Clinton has surfaced
“I’m very persistent, but um… I really want to see you,” she says.
The Enquirer reported that Monica Lewinsky played the tape for Linda Tripp, who later revealed telephone tapes of the intern which led to Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
Linda Tripp reportedly heard it on November 20, 1997, and it was taken to the Oval Office the next day, but it is not known if a rendezvous ever occurred. In the audio, Monica Lewinsky explained that she had decided to record it because she couldn’t face writing him another letter.
The Enquirer reported that the tape – and begging love letters Monica Lewinsky wrote to Bill Clinton – were obtained by a cleaner who was hired by friends of Lewinsky’s.
“I was supposed to shred everything in late 1998, but for some reason I kept this material,” the cleaner told the Enquirer.
The pleading notes reportedly reveal Monica Lewinsky begging Bill Clinton to make time for her and to explain why he ended their illicit romance.
“It was so sad seeing you last night because I was so angry with you that you once again rejected me and yet, all I wanted was for everyone else in the room to disappear and for you to hold me,” she wrote.
“I loved you with all of my heart, Bill.
“For the life of me, I can’t understand how you could be so kind and so cruel to me.”
Another letter asks: “What did I do to deserve this? I am seriously depressed because of everything that has happened…
“I have lost profoundly both professionally and personally, and in a toss-up, our personal relationship changing has caused me more pain.”
Monica Lewinsky was just 22 when she allegedly had the first of nine s**ual encounters with President Bill Clinton between November 1995 and March 1997. Details of the affair emerged in 1998.
In the wake of the scandal, Monica Lewinsky became the center of a political storm and gave a series of high-profile interviews.
But unable to escape the shake the reputation, Monica Lewinsky moved to England in 2005 where she earned her master’s degree and worked as a news correspondent for the UK’s Channel Five News.
Though it has been 15 years since her claims, her presence still looms in the life of Bill Clinton’s post-presidency and Hillary’s political career.
And sources told the National Enquirer that this most recent revelation could derail Hillary Clinton’s expected bid for the White House in 2016.
“The Clintons thought this s** tape was dead and buried,” said the source.
“If this tape and other material are surfacing now, imagine what else must be out there?”
It comes at an already embarrassing moment for the Clintons as they deal with yet another texting scandal surrounding mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner.
Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, is one of Hillary Clinton’s top aides – but is taking an extended vacation to deal with the upset following news of her husband’s latest indiscretions.
Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky has an estimated net worth of $500,000.
Monica Lewinsky first achieve notoriety after having a very public scandal involving former president Bill Clinton.
She comes from a well-to-do family having attended elementary school in Bel Air and Beverley Hills High school. In her senior year, Monica Lewinsky went to Bel Air Prep and upon graduation attended Lewis and Clark College where she graduated with a psychology degree. After her graduation, Monica Lewinsky became a White House intern. Between 1995 and 1997, she had an affair with former President Bill Clinton, which she later admitted before a grand jury.
Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky has an estimated net worth of $500,000
Things came to a head when Monica Lewinsky was moved to the Pentagon. There she confided in a colleague named Linda Tripp about her relationship with Bill Clinton. Shocked by the revelation, Linda Tripp secretly taped their conversations and later convinced Monica Lewinsky to save any gifts given to her by Bill Clinton. The recording of the conversations between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky plus the gifts were handed over to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr. The news of Clinton/Lewinsky’s affair broke out in 1998.
Bill Clinton famously said: “I did not have s****al relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.”
However, Kenneth Starr revealed that he possessed an infamous blue dress that contained the President’s semen. Bill Clinton soon confessed to the affair.
Since the Lewinsky scandal, she became somewhat of a celebrity, appearing on Saturday Night Live, The Tom Green Show, as well as countless interviews concerning the affair. Monica Lewinsky was paid $1 million endorse Jenny Craig in TV commercials.
She teamed with author Andrew Morton to publish the book Monica’s Story in 1999. Her book advance reportedly $500,000. She also became a fashion designer, selling a collection of handbags under her name. Despite moderate success, Monica Lewinsky did not continue with the handbag line. Growing tired of the US media attention, Monica Lewinsky moved to London in 2005. The following year, she graduated with a masters in social psychology at London School of Economics.
Chelsea Victoria Clinton was born on February 27, 1980, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and she spent part of her youth as a public figure as the daughter of President Bill Clinton and future Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Chelsea Clinton attended Stanford University and went to Columbia for an M.P.H. before becoming an NBC News correspondent.
According to reports, the former First Daughter has an IQ score of 127. Not genius, but above average.
She is an advocate for women’s rights, AIDS research and global humanitarianism.
Her name was chosen based on the Joni Mitchell’s song, Chelsea Morning. At the time of her birth, father William Jefferson Clinton was serving his first term in office as the governor of Arkansas.
Chelsea’s mother, attorney Hillary Rodham Clinton, was a partner at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock.
Despite their hectic schedules, the Clintons made their only child the center of their busy lives.
Chelsea Clinton’s father kept a small desk for his daughter in his office and had breakfast with her every morning. Hillary Clinton interrupted her schedule to talk to Chelsea when she came home from school, helped out on class field trips and frequently left loving messages at Forest Park Elementary School for Chelsea while she was away on business.
Determined to foster independence and intellectual curiosity, the Clintons often pushed Chelsea hard to succeed. The precocious girl began studying ballet at the age of 4, skipped the third grade, and learned how to invest in the stock market when she was barely 11. After reading an article in a life sciences class that discussed the detrimental effects red meat has on the body, Chelsea Clinton also became a strict vegetarian.
Living at the White House
Chelsea Clinton, who was used to being shielded from her parents’ very public jobs, experienced a huge life change in 1993, when her father was elected the 42nd President of the United States. As the pre-teen child of the new First Family, Chelsea Clinton experienced intense media scrutiny. Entering an awkward, adolescent phase of her life didn’t help matters, and the young Clinton often endured jokes about her appearance. As a result of the intense publicity, the Clintons developed an unspoken pact with the press that Chelsea was strictly off limits.
Outside of the White House, Chelsea Clinton’s parents encouraged her to live as normal a life as possible. She attended Sidwell Friends School, where she excelled in history and science, and began taking ballet courses at the Washington School of Ballet. During her teenage years, she was so active and involved – pursuing a role in the Model United Nations, practicing for theatre and ballet performances, and even attending math camp – that she reportedly earned the Secret Service code name “Energy.”
In April 1995, Chelsea Clinton made what some called a “debut” to the national media, when she joined her mother on a tour of India. The press gave her positive reviews, and made special note of her intelligence and compassion.
Chelsea Clinton IQ score is 127
College years
In 1997, Chelsea Clinton made the decision to attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, with the intention of studying pre-med.
Now an adult, she became a frequent topic in the press, who made headlines out of her romantic relationships with fellow student Matthew Pierce, as well as former White House intern Jeremy Kane. In addition to this pressure, her sophomore year was fraught with complications from the news of her father’s affair with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. It was during this time that she brought the family together, both publicly and privately.
According to her mother’s memoirs, Chelsea Clinton was present during the meeting in which her father and his advisers debated how to acknowledge his affair with the nation.
When her parents were first seen together again after the news, Chelsea Clinton was there as well, symbolically clasping the hands of both parents in public.
While navigating these tricky social matters, Chelsea Clinton also managed a rigorous school schedule.
In her junior year, Chelsea Clinton changed her major from medicine to history and began work on her thesis project: the Northern Ireland peace process (for which she interviewed, among other sources, her father). After delivering her 167-page thesis, Chelsea Clinton headed to Oxford University in England to pursue a master’s degree in International Relations.
Professional career
In 2003, after graduation, Chelsea Clinton joined the consulting firm McKinsey & Company in New York City, becoming the youngest person in her class to be hired. After three years with the firm, she joined the hedge fund Avenue Capital Group.
After a year of campaigning for her mother’s 2008 presidential bid, Chelsea Clinton decided to explore new avenues in her personal and professional life. In November 2009, she announced that she and investment banker Marc Mezvinsky were engaged to be married.
Marc Mezvinsky, who was a longtime friend, fellow Stanford alum and son of two former members of Congress, proposed over the Thanksgiving holiday. The next month, Chelsea Clinton returned to school, this time studying health policy and management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. The couple was married July 31, 2010, in Rhinebeck, New York. The 400-person ceremony at the exclusive Astor Courts facility was shrouded in secrecy for months before the wedding – the couple even shut down the airspace above Rhinebeck for the 12 hours surrounding the ceremony to avoid an influx of paparazzi.
In addition to her studies, Chelsea Clinton serves on the board of the School of American Ballet and has also served as co-chairperson for her father’s Clinton Foundation.
Marjorie Margolies, Chelsea Clinton’s mother-in-law, made it official Thursday and filed her papers to run for her old House seat in Pennsylvania in 2014.
The newly minted congressional candidate is better known as Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, her former married name.
Marjorie Margolies cast a decisive vote for Bill Clinton’s 1993 budget. Republicans chanted “Bye, Bye, Marjorie,” when she did and she was defeated for re-election the following year.
Marjorie Margolies, Chelsea Clinton’s mother-in-law, filed her papers to run for her old House seat in Pennsylvania in 2014
“My desire to serve today is rooted firmly in the very same belief I held when I first won this seat – a belief in the power of different voices in Congress to make a difference,” Marjorie Margolies in a statement, reported by the PoliticsPA blog.
Marjorie Margolies is running in Pennsylvania’s 13th District, which is based in suburban Philadelphia. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, a Democrat, is vacating the seat to run for governor.
She is the founder of Women’s Campaign International, a non-profit organization that works around the world to ensure women can participate in the development of public policy and provides advocacy training. She also teaches at the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government.
Marc Mezvinsky, the candidate’s son, married Chelsea Clinton in 2010.
Marjorie Margolies divorced her son’s father, former congressman Ed Mezvinsky, in 2007.
World’s most famous intern Monica Lewinsky, it seems, is making a return to public life in 2013.
At the beginning of this year Monica Lewinsky was spotted at the birthday party of Heather Kerzner at the Downton Mayfair restaurant. In the company of amongst others the Duchess of York, Princess Eugenie and her former Admiral Codrington barman boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, Donna Air and the Duchess of Cambridge’s brother, James Middleton, the Daily Mail described her as wearing “dark layers with gem-laden accessories”.
Monica Lewinsky was introduced to Heather Kerzner, the former wife of hotel magnate Sol Kerzner, by socialite and actress Amanda Eliasch in August 2012. Amongst others at a party held at the Chateau Marmont were Lisa Zane, Yassi Mazandi, Edward Bennett-Coles and Ronnie Sassoon.
Aside from having plainly found a niche on the social circuits of London and Manhattan, Monica Lewinsky, who has openly admitted that she’s “kind of known for something that’s not so great to be known for”, appeared in a $1 million endorsement campaign for Jenny Craig starting in January 2000. The deal was a disaster and by February of that year, the firm dropped Monica Lewinsky and paid just for $300,000 for her involvement.

On the memoir and interview appearance fee front, Monica Lewinsky has been far more successfully. Andrew Morton’s Monica’s Story is said to have netted her around $500,000 and circa $1 million from the international rights to her 20/20 interview with Barbara Walters on ABC.
In due course, supposedly seeking a more private life, Monica Lewinsky moved to London in 2005 to study social psychology at the London School of Economics. She produced a thesis titled In Search of the Impartial Juror: An Exploration of the Third-person effect and Pre-Trial Publicity.
In September 2012, Forbes magazine revealed that Monica Lewinsky was about to sign a $12 million memoir “detailing her relationship with the first seducer, discussing everything from his sexual peccadilloes to his complaints about wife Hillary”.
Around the same time, a “friend” told the New York Post: “No one will hire her and she can’t get a job because of Clinton.”
In another feature in the National Enquirer, another “friend” added: “She’s facing 40 without a man in her life” as an excuse for why Monica Lewinsky is again peddling her story.
The latest? It’s now being suggested that Bill Clinton’s former lover will appear on a FOX show named The Swan along with Happy Days actress Erin Moran. The programme, last broadcast in 2004, sees participants receive “physical and mental makeovers” including plastic surgery as they prepare to “reinvent themselves”.
Whether the memoirs and reality show go ahead or not, it looks like Monica Lewinsky will be back in London soon. In conclusion, Heather Kerzner told Charlotte Griffiths of the Mail on Sunday’s diary: “It was great to have Monica along – we’re old friends. I’m now organizing the Masterpiece Midsummer Gala in aid of charity on July 2. Hopefully Monica will be able to attend.”
Mississippi authorities are investigating the death of State Representative Jessica Upshaw, who was found dead in a suspected suicide at the home of former lawmaker Clint Rotenberry, according to local officials.
The death of Republican Rep Jessica Upshaw, 53, of the 95th District in Diamondhead, was confirmed by Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor.
The cause of her death is believed to be suicide.
Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis told WLOX that Jessica Upshaw appeared to have shot herself in the head at a home in Mendenhall, located about 30 miles southeast of Jackson, the state capital.
The home is owned by former state Rep Clint Rotenberry, according to The Clarion-Ledger newspaper.
Mississippi authorities are investigating the death of State Representative Jessica Upshaw, who was found dead in a suspected suicide at the home of former lawmaker Clint Rotenberry
The investigation has been handed over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
No one has been arrested in the case.
Jessica Upshaw was an attorney who was first elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2004.
She was a Republican from Diamondhead along the state’s coast. Mendenhall is about 110 miles away from her hometown.
Jessica Upshaw was not married, but did have an adult daughter who is married with a child of her own and lives in South Korea, according to the Clarion-Ledger.
Clint Rotenberry, also a Republican, served in the 77th district as a state representative from 1992 to 2007.
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant told the paper: “[My wife] Deborah and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Rep Jessica Upshaw. I have known Jessica for many years as an unselfish and dedicated public servant.
“This is a tragic loss for her family and all Mississippians, and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time.”
Jessica Upshaw is the fifth Mississippi lawmaker in to die in the last few months.
Joe Gardner of Batesville, died last month of a heart attack at the age of 68. Democratic Rep. David Gibbs, of West Point, died January 13.
Two Democratic state senators, Bennie Turner, of West Point, and Alice Harden, of Jackson, died in late 2012.
Clint Rotenberry did not answer his phone, and his answering machine was full.
House Minority Leader Bobby Moak describes Jessica Upshaw as a passionate champion of causes for her district and the state.
More than twenty years after she became a household name for alleging she had a 12-year affair with Bill Clinton, Gennifer Flowers has made yet more shocking claims about the former president.
Gennifer Flowers, who enjoyed a lucrative modeling and acting career as well as top book sales following her announcement in 1992, has claimed that Bill Clinton called her as recently as 2005, begging to see her.
Speaking with WGNO, Gennifer Flowers, 62, said was at home alone in Louisiana following her divorce when her phone rang.
“I picked up the phone and it was him,” she told host Susan Roesgen.
“And he wanted to come by my house and talk to me. I was taken aback; that was the last thing I expected.”
Gennifer Flowers added that, even when she refused to allow him to visit, he persisted.
“I said, <<No you can’t come over here>>,” she continued.
“He said, <<I’ll put on a hoodie and I’ll jog up there>> and I said, <<No, I want you to leave me alone>>. And that was that.”
The call allegedly came decades after Gennifer Flowers claimed they had a years-long affair while Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas. He later claimed they only ever had one sexual encounter in the 1970s.
But in another bombshell on WGNO, Gennifer Flowers claimed Bill Clinton had in fact discussed revealing the affair in the 1990s as he was struggling to achieve the recognition he needed to win the presidency.
Gennifer Flowers has claimed that Bill Clinton called her as recently as 2005, begging to see her
“I made him a household name over night,” Gennifer Flowers told WGNO.
“We had had that discussion. He said, <<My problem right now is that no one knows who I am. I need that name recognition>>.
“He went on to talk about the other candidates and the advantages they had… When my story came out, he was a household name.”
The claims come as Gennifer Flowers appeared on the show in the wake of the David Petraeus sex scandal to discuss life as the mistress of a high-profile man.
“It’s very unfortunate,” Gennifer Flowers said of the Petraeus affair.
“It does really surprise me. But there’s always something like that around the corner.”
To Paula Broadwell, the biographer-turned-mistress of David Petraeus, she said: “Call me Paula! I’ll give you some really good advice… You’d better buck up, it’s going to be one hell of a bull ride.”
Of her own claims about her affair with Bill Clinton, Gennifer Flowers added: “I really thought that coming out and telling the truth would set me free, but it didn’t.”
Gennifer Flowers spoke out in January 1992, as Bill Clinton fought for the White House, and claimed she had had a 12-year affair with the married father of one during his time as governor.
She later released tape recordings she claimed she had secretly made of her and Clinton’s phone calls, although there was doubt over their authenticity.
In 1998, Bill Clinton admitted he had a sexual encounter with Gennifer Flowers and added in his 2004 autobiography My Life that it was only on one occasion in 1977, when he was already married.
Following her claims, Gennifer Flowers posed for Penthouse magazine and featured in independent films and television shows. She said her claims netted her $500,000.

Bill Clinton has delivered a prime-time defence of Barack Obama, nominating the president for a second term in the White House.
Former US president’s 50-minute speech at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, was strongly critical of Republican economic plans.
Bill Clinton launched a full-throated defence of Barack Obama’s policies, saying his economic policies were working.
Barack Obama will take on Republican Mitt Romney in November’s election.
Bill Clinton’s speech is being seen as the high point of a revitalized relationship between the two presidents and as an attempt to boost Barack Obama’s appeal with white working-class voters.
Polls show these traditional Democratic voters are wary of Barack Obama, but Bill Clinton has a strong record in winning their support.

Bill Clinton told the crowd that they would “decide what kind of country you want to live in”.
“If you want a <<you’re on your own, winner take all society>> you should support the Republican ticket,” he said.
“If you want a country of shared opportunities and shared responsibilities – a <<we’re all in it together>> society – you should vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.”
Bill Clinton attacked Republicans for blocking further progress on the economic recovery and getting deep into the detail of policy debates.
“In order to look like an acceptable, moderate alternative to President Obama, they couldn’t say much about the ideas they have offered over the last two years,” he said, referring to the Republican convention in Florida a week ago.
Reminding the crowd that Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell had revealed that their number one priority was to get Barack Obama out of office, he declared: “We’re going to keep President Obama on the job.”
Bill Clinton argued that Barack Obama’s economic policies on taking office had prevented further collapse and begun the recovery, but said he knew that many Americans were still struggling.
He compared Barack Obama’s experience to his own first term in office, when “our policies were working and the economy was growing but most people didn’t feel it yet”.
“No president – not me or any of my predecessors – could have repaired all the [2008] damage in just four years,” he said.
“But conditions are improving and if you’ll renew the president’s contract you will feel it.”
Bill Clinton criticized Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan, who he said misrepresented Barack Obama’s Medicare policy at last week’s Republican convention.
He argued that Paul Ryan had made the same amount in cuts as part of his plan for the government-sponsored healthcare plan for the elderly.
“It takes some brass to attack a guy for doing what you did,” said Bill Clinton.
He also countered a Republican ad that Barack Obama had weakened the work requirement for welfare, which Bill Clinton signed into law.
“When some Republican governors asked to try new ways to put people on welfare back to work, the Obama administration said they would only do it if they had a credible plan to increase employment by 20%,” Bill Clinton said, adding that the Republican charge was “just not true”.
After the former president finished a lengthy and partially ad-libbed speech, Barack Obama joined him on stage.
They have previously sparred, most notably during the 2008 primaries when Bill Clinton supported his wife Hillary’s bid for the nomination, and they are known not have a close personal bond.
Earlier, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi was just one of a string of speakers who highlighted social causes including women’s issues, and economic concerns such as the future of the auto industry.
Nancy Pelosi warned that “democracy was on the ballot” in November.
“Republicans support opening the floodgates to special interest money and suppressing the right to vote,” she said.
“It’s just plain wrong.”
Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren railed against inequality, saying Mitt Romney’s policy would amount to “I’ve got mine, the rest of you are on your own”.
And Sandra Fluke, a student branded a “slut” by conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh during a row over contraception, made a prime-time appearance calling for action on women’s issues.
In a procedural surprise as Wednesday’s events got under way, the convention reinstated language from the 2008 platform describing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
In confusing scenes a voice vote on the language was called three times. Despite loud boos in the audience, convention chair Antonio Villaraigosa said he had determined that two-thirds of the convention had voted in favor.
Reports emerged shortly afterwards that Barack Obama had personally intervened to change the platform’s language.

Bill Clinton branded President Barack Obama as an “amateur” and urged his wife Hillary to run against him in 2012 U.S. presidential election, claims a new book,
According to Edward Klein’s new biography of Barack Obama called The Amateur, Bill Clinton tore into the president and branded him “incompetent” and that he “did not know how to be President”.
He also urged Hillary Clinton to quit her job as U.S. Secretary of State and challenge Barack Obama for the Democratic ticket as she knew how to do a better job of it.
The extraordinary claims – which have been strongly denied by Bill Clinton – came after he finally gave Barack Obama his backing and put their past differences behind them.
The two had clashed during Hillary Clinton’s failed bid for the Presidency in 2008, which she lost to Barack Obama.
According to Edward Klein’s book, however, enmity runs even deeper than it had been thought.
During a gathering at Bill Clinton’s home in Chappaqua, New York last August he supposedly told his wife: “The economy’s a mess, it’s dead flat. America has lost its Triple-A rating . . .
“You know better than Obama does. “
According to Edward Klein’s new biography of Barack Obama called The Amateur, Bill Clinton tore into the president and branded him “incompetent” and that he “did not know how to be President”
Bill Clinton supposedly claimed to have “no relationship” with President Barack Obama and spoke more often to his own successor George W. Bush.
He is said to have told his wife: “Barack Obama is an amateur.
“The country needs you! The country needs us!”
It would be highly unusual for somebody from within a serving president’s party to challenge him in the primaries.
The last time it happened was in 1980 when Ted Kennedy challenged Jimmy Carter for the Democratic nomination, though he lost, as did Carter in the election to Ronald Reagan.
According to the book, Bill Clinton’s tirade did not end there amid protestations from Hillary Clinton that she did not want to risk her legacy from her current post as U.S. Secretary of State.
Hillary Clinton, 64, also supposedly emphasized that she could run in 2016, but Bill Clinton, 65, who has been become a vegan out of concerns for his health, said it could be too late.
Bill Clinton shouted: “I know you’re young enough! That’s not what I’m worried about. I’m worried that I’m not young enough.
“I’m the highest-ranking member in Obama’s Cabinet. I eat breakfast with the guy every Thursday morning.”
Hillary Clinton is said to have responded: “What about loyalty, Bill? What about loyalty?”
Bill Clinton said back: “Loyalty is a joke, loyalty doesn’t exist in politics.”
Things remained heated when the Clintons’ daughter Chelsea walked in on the conversation and told her mother she “deserved” to be President.
Bill Clinton even offered to commission polls to see how she fared against Barack Obama, the book says, but she told him: “Go ahead and knock yourself out.”
He finally buried the hatchet with Barack Obama recently and appeared in a presidential campaign advert for him during which he praised him for hunting down Osama bin Laden.
Bill Clinton has also appeared at rallies with the President with relations appearing cordial and good humored.
Hillary Clinton has long been touted as presidential candidate in the 2016 elections.
She is currently enjoying a surge in her popularity fuelled by photos of her dancing and drinking a beer in Columbia which showed her having fun.
Bill Clinton’s spokesman Matt McKenna branded Edward Klein “a known liar” and that the claims were “totally and completely false”.
White House spokesman Eric Schultz said: “Nobody in their right mind would believe the nonsense in this one, especially since both Secretary Clinton and President Clinton have been loyal and supportive of the president at every turn.”
