Alvin Stardust’s final album, his first in 30 years, got an early release following the artist’s death.

Alvin Stardust died on October 23, at the age of 72, after a short illness.

The singer had recently been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer and died at home with his wife and family around him.

Alvin Stardust had been due to release the album, titled Alvin, on November 3, but it will now be out on October 27.

Speaking shortly before his death, Alvin Stardust said the album would represent “a new and exciting departure” of which he was “immensely proud”.

The album was produced by Richard Scott and Scott Ralph, known as Daftdog, who have written for Robbie Williams and Michael Buble.

Speaking a few weeks before he died, Alvin Stardust revealed the chance to make the album “came out of the blue”.

Alvin Stardust, born Bernard Jewry, found fame in the 1970s with hits including My Coo Ca Choo and Jealous Mind.

Born Bernard Jewry in the East End of London in 1942, his hits included My Coo Ca Choo, Jealous Mind and I Feel Like Buddy Holly.

The former glam rock star had been due to release his first studio album in 30 years this autumn.

He recently announced the record, titled Alvin, was finished and would represent “a new and exciting departure” of which he was “immensely proud”.

Once described as “the Godfather of British Rock ‘n’ Roll” by Rolling Stone Keith Richards, he made sporadic acting appearances in Hollyoaks, The Grimley’s and Doctors.

He also appeared on stage in such musicals as Godspell, The Phantom of the Opera and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, in which he played the fearsome Child Catcher.

Before reinventing himself as Alvin Stardust in the 1970s, he recorded under the name Shane Fenton with his band the Fentones.

Alvin Stardust was married three times. His second wife was the actress Liza Goddard, who said she had been “bowled over by his charm”.
