Osama bin Laden Pakistani report leaked to Al-Jazeera reveals how he avoided detection for ten years

A leaked Pakistani government report reveals that incompetence and negligence allowed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden to live in Pakistan undetected for almost a decade.

A version of the report leaked to al-Jazeera says the killing of Osama bin Laden by US forces was a “criminal act of murder” ordered by the US president.

The report also reveals details of Osama bin Laden’s whereabouts and day-to-day life after fleeing Afghanistan in 2001.

Osama bin Laden was killed by US forces in north-west Pakistan in May 2011.

US suspicions about Osama bin Laden’s location had previously been dismissed by Pakistan. However, his discovery in a compound in Abbottabad and subsequent killing in a US Navy Seal operation put a strain on US-Pakistan relations.

Shortly after the raid, the Pakistan parliament called for an independent enquiry – the Abbottabad Commission – to establish whether the failures of the government were due to incompetence or colluding with al-Qaeda.

It was also commissioned to investigate the Pakistani intelligence services’ failure to detect CIA activity on its soil in the run-up to the raid “that culminated in the avoidable humiliation of the people of Pakistan”.

In its findings, the report described the lack of intelligence as “government implosion syndrome”.

The leaked documents fiercely criticized the Pakistani government and military, describing “culpable negligence and incompetence at almost all levels of government”.

While the commission said it found nothing to support allegations of complicity, it said it could not rule out “the possibility of some degree of connivance inside or outside the government”.

The report also voiced harsh criticism of the Navy Seal raid on Abbottabad, describing it as an “American act of war” and Pakistan’s “greatest humiliation” since East Pakistan seceded in 1971.

It quotes officials as saying that Pakistan air force jets were scrambled to shoot down the US helicopters, but too late.

The 336-page document was the result of interviews with more than 200 witnesses, including senior civilian and military officials, as well as with Osama bin Laden’s three widows prior to their deportation to Saudi Arabia.

The report has been in the hands of the government for more than six months, but it had been kept under wraps.

In the version leaked to al-Jazeera, the daily life of Osama bin Laden after fleeing the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 is documented.

He was reported to have arrived in Pakistan in the spring or summer of 2002, staying in parts of South Waziristan, Bajaur, Peshawar, Swat and Haripur before settling in Abbottabad in 2005.

The wife of one of Osama bin Laden’s aides, Maryam, was quoted saying police in Swat even stopped the al-Qaeda leader’s vehicle for speeding in 2002 or 2003 – but failed to recognize him.

Referring to Osama bin Laden and his entourage, the report said: “They kept a very low profile and lived extremely frugally. They never exposed themselves to public view.”

Testimony from his widows said Osama bin Laden wore a cowboy hat whilst moving around the compound to avoid detection.

However, over a period of six years the unusual nature of the compound failed to draw the attention of the intelligence services, the report goes on.

“How the entire neighborhood, local officials, police and security and intelligence officials all missed the size, the strange shape, the barbed wire, the lack of cars and visitors etc over a period of nearly six years beggars belief.”

Commenting on the leak, the head of the commission, Javed Iqbal, told Pakistani Dunya TV that it was “based on assumptions” and did not include even one out of more than 100 recommendations the commission had made in its findings.

Turkish riot police fire tear gas and water cannon at Gezi Park protesters

Turkish riot police have fired tear gas and water cannon at protesters trying to enter Istanbul’s Gezi Park that was the focus of last month’s anti-government protests.

Istanbul’s governor reopened Gezi Park – next to Taksim Square – to the public earlier on Monday, but shut it again after protest leaders called a rally.

Gezi Park had been shut since June 15, when police ejected people occupying it in protest at redevelopment plans.

Turkish authorities’ response to the protest sparked nationwide unrest.

Four people were killed and thousands more were injured as police cracked down on anti-government demonstrators, who accused PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan of becoming increasingly authoritarian.

Hundreds of people flocked to Gezi Park on Monday afternoon after Istanbul governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu declared it open once again.

Huseyin Avni Mutlu said staff had tried to improve the park while it was sealed off, planting additional trees and shrubs and replacing damaged grass.

But, in a clear warning to protesters, he also warned that it was no place for “forums, occupations or marches”.

“Blocking the parks, making them areas for demonstrations, preventing children, elderly and [others] from using these areas and turning this into a security problem – we would never ever allow that,” he told reporters.

Taksim Solidarity, a group of political parties and non-governmental organizations, subsequently called a public meeting in the park at 19:00 (16:00 GMT), prompting the authorities to close it after only three hours.

Dozens of people were forced to leave by police, who used their shields to eject some who resisted.

Officers then used tear gas and water cannon to break up a crowd of several thousand people marching along Istanbul’s main shopping street towards Taksim Square, according to the Reuters news agency.

On Saturday, police prevented thousands of people trying to enter Gezi Park as part of a rally called by Taksim Solidarity to serve notice to the authorities of a court decision that annulled the redevelopment plan.

An administrative court said locals had not been consulted sufficiently about replacing the park with a replica of an Ottoman-era military barracks and a mosque, and that the work would not serve the public.

However, the ruling is not final and the government is expected to appeal.

Freddie Mercury Radio Go Go Gorilla removed from Millennium Plain after copyright complaint

Freddie Mercury Radio Go Go Gorilla, a gorilla sculpture painted as the late musician, has been removed from a public art trail in Norwich, UK, after a copyright complaint.

Organizers of Go Go Gorillas event were contacted by Queen’s manager Jim Beach on behalf of the Freddie Mercury estate.

The estate claimed the suit “worn” by the gorilla breached copyright.

It asked the Freddie “Radio Go Go” Gorilla sculpture, which Norfolk artist Mik Richardson took three days to create, to be “taken off the streets”.

The sculpture was removed from Millennium Plain, outside The Forum, at 11:00 BST.

Mik Richardson, 50, of Aylsham, Norfolk, said the decision to order its removal was “absolutely shocking”.

He said: “It’s dreadful. It’s petty, really. The night I was told I couldn’t sleep.”

Mik Richardson was paid £800 ($1,250) to design and paint the gorilla.

“I’m a mural artist and I have to be very careful about copyright,” he said.

“I didn’t copy the suit exactly. I alter enough so that it’s fan art, rather than a copy of it.”

The “Radio Go Go” gorilla is one of 53 life-size gorillas decorated by Norfolk artists and displayed on the streets of Norwich over the summer.

An additional 67 baby gorillas, painted at local schools, made up the 120-strong public art trail.

The Freddie Mercury estate contacted Wild in Art, the company that supplied the gorilla glass-fibre canvases, according to director Charlie Langhorne.

“They just said that they own the copyright on the suit and asked us to change it,” Charlie Langhorne said.

“That’s being sorted. To save any bother we will change it.

“We do quite a few bits and pieces for them but it’s no great shakes.

“We would rather not have to do it but it’s not the end of the world.”

He said the gorilla would be repainted with a “new and exciting design” and should be back in place within 10 days.

“People in Norwich will have a new gorilla to enjoy soon,” he said.

Martin Green of Break, one of two charities that will benefit from the auction of the gorillas once the exhibition is over, said: “It’s a disappointing position they have put us in.

“Freddie is one of our most popular gorillas on the trail and now we’ve got to remove him from the streets.

“It’s a sad story, but the positive news is that we’ll end up with another gorilla on the streets.”

The Born Free Foundation, which counts Queen guitarist Brian May among its celebrity supporters, was also set to benefit from the October auction of the Freddie Mercury gorilla to help support conservation projects in the Congo.

A “Freddie Lion” had previously been commissioned for a Pride of Cape Town art trail in May.

A spokesman for the Freddie Mercury estate said it would “not be making any comment”.

Kris Jenner reveals Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and baby North moved into a private residence near her mansion

Kris Jenner shot down rumors that Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and baby North have moved into her own Calabasas mansion.

But the momager did reveal that the new family have moved into a private residence nearby.

“She’s living in a residence nearby. She’s doing great,” Kris Jenner told host Marc Lamont Hill during an interview on Huffington Post Live.

“She sold her house and bought a new one. She’s renovating [her new] house, so she is not ready yet [to move in yet],” she added.

Kris Jenner, 57, also said that she was not looking after baby North West just yet, but visiting a lot.

The Kardashian matriarch also told Marc Lamont Hill that North West’s name was agreed on by both Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and explained the meaning of the name for the couple.

“I think they did it together yeah, for sure,” she said.

“Kim explained it to me, she said <<North is the highest power>> Their baby North is the highest point of power between the two of them.”

Marc Lamont Hill pressed Kris Jenner about whether or not her daughter and Kanye West were going to get married and if she approved.

“If they want to,” she said, adding that she had ‘no idea’ whether or not Kim wanted to marry the father of her child.

That is when Marc Lamont Hill took his own opportunity to get Kris Jenner to spill the beans about whether baby North west would appear on the show.

“Speaking of which, are they are going to come on the show?” he asked.

“Maybe,” Kris Jenner replied with a wink.

Kris Jenner hints that Kim Kardashian will reveal baby North West on her show

Rumors that Kim Kardashian’s baby daughter North West would make her big debut on her grandmother Kris Jenner’s upcoming self-titled talk show Kris were shot down last week.

However, in a new interview on the Today Show with Matt Lauer on Monday morning, Kris Jenner revealed that it still may be on the cards.

Kris Jenner, 57, hinted that either pictures of her three-week-old granddaughter North may be shown on her show or perhaps the newborn, her mother Kim Kardashian and father Kanye West would do an on-air appearance.

When asked flat out by Matt Lauer if baby North would make her big debut on her show, Kris Jenner laughed: “Well, that’s ambitious. I think you’re just going to have to wait and see and tune in because I am not sure if that is going to happen.”

When Matt Lauer pressed even further, Kris Jenner could not contain her coy smile.

“Tell me right now it will not happen, you WILL NOT be showing first-time baby photos the first week of your show,” he challenged.

“I won’t tell you it won’t happen,” Kris Jenner replied.

“Give you a little something to think about. You never know who is going to show up.”

In the meantime, Kris Jenner gave Matt Lauer his very own sneak peek at baby North West by showing him a picture of the tiny tot on her iPhone.

During her appearance on The Today Show, Kris Jenner also revealed her plans to have a different famous co-host each week on her new programme, including the likes of P. Diddy, Maria Menounos and Nene Leakes.

Kris Jenner’s hints about baby North West’s long awaited debut come after it was reported that Kim Kardashian was planning to sell the first picture of her and Kanye West’s daughter to a magazine after considering a $2 million dollar offer – which she plans to donate to charity.

According to TMZ, Kim Kardashian had turned down the idea of appearing on her mother’s show in favour of a shoot.

Kris Jenner’s long awaited show will debut on July 15th, so it’s not too surprising that the momager wanted a big splash to open with, particularly after promising lots of content from her family.

The website claimed that Kim Kardashian, 32, had not yet decided on an offer but was offered a whopping $2 million from one magazine.

It was thought that Kanye West was the one behind the decision as he is believed to be keen to maintain some level of privacy for their daughter.

It’s thought little North West also won’t feature on the next season of Keep Up With The Kardashians, which is no doubt set to cause cracks within the family.

The first picture of Kim Kardashian since she gave birth emerged at the end of last month on Khloe Kardashian’s Facebook page.

In the image Kim Kardashian looks exhausted while enjoying a nap with Khloe and Lamar Odom’s boxer pup, Bernard.

San Francisco crash landing: Emergency responders may have run over one of Asiana victims killing her

One of the Chinese teenagers who were found dead in the Asiana Airlines wreckage may have actually survived the crash – only to be struck and killed by emergency responders scrambling to the crash site.

As the first photographs begin to emerge of the two schoolgirls, authorities say one of the victims was found outside the plane and had apparently been hit by a fire truck or an ambulance.

San Francisco’s medical examiner is now conducting an autopsy to determine whether it was the vehicle that killed her or if she was dead before she was struck.

“One of the deceased did have injuries consistent with those of having been run over by a vehicle,” fire department spokeswomen Mindy Talmadge said.

“Many agencies were on the field.”

In the chaos of the crash-landing of Asiana Airlines Flight 214, dozens of police cars, fire trucks and ambulances rushed to the scene to help rescue the jetliner’s 291 passengers and battle the blaze that broke out on board.

Witnesses reported seeing dozens of people running on the tarmac, attempting to escape the burning wreckage of the plane.

Asiana Airlines said the two dead in San Francisco Boeing 777 crash landing were Ye Mengyuan and Wang Linjia, both 16 years old from Jiangshan in eastern China.

They were both headed for a summer camp in the U.S. – part of a group of 70 Chinese students and teachers aboard the Boeing 777 that crash-landed.

A total of 141 Chinese nationals were aboard the flight that was bound for San Francisco from Seoul, South Korea.

Wang Linjia’s parents were both on the fight, as well, and could be seen sobbing as they learned their daughter died in the crash.

The black box aboard the Boeing 777 jetliner set out three crucial moments – beginning 7 seconds before impact – that show the plane was approaching the runway too slowly and that the pilots were trying to correct the problem.

National Transportation Safety Board officials said today that the jetliner, which was carrying 291 passengers, was flying “significantly” slower than the 137 knots that is ideal for jetliners preparing to land in San Francisco.

NTSB Chair Deborah Hersman said an initial examination of the plane’s in-flight data recorders show no indication that the plane was in trouble until 7 seconds before impact.

It was at that point that the pilots tried to increase the speed of the plane.

“We have to take another look at the raw data and corroborate it with radar and air traffic information to make sure we have a very precise speed,” Deborah Hersman said.

Asiana Airlines shares fall after Boeing 777 crash landing in San Francisco

Asiana Airlines shares fell nearly 6% in Seoul, after one of its planes crash landed in San Francisco over the weekend.

US investigators have said the Boeing 777 was “significantly below” its target speed near the runway and the pilot tried to abort the landing.

The aircraft with 307 people came down short of the runway on Saturday, killing two people and injuring dozens.

Analysts said the incident may hurt the South Korean carrier’s earnings in the near term.

“Any airline that goes through a crash landing does take a hit to its reputation in the short term,” said Chris De Lavigne, an aerospace analyst with consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.

“We are likely to see some people cancel their bookings and think whether it is safe to fly Asiana, until there is sufficient reassurance from the airline that it has found the root cause and sorted it out.”

Chris De Lavigne added that the airline may also have to face additional costs in the form of fines from the authorities and possible damages claims from some passengers.

Five people are in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital, hospital spokesperson Rachael Kagan said. Three others are being treated at Stanford Hospital.

Altogether 181 people were taken to hospital, mostly with minor injuries.

There were 291 passengers and 16 crew on board, Asiana said. All of the passengers have been accounted for.

Deborah Hersman, the chief of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), told a news conference on Sunday that there was a call to increase the plane speed about two seconds before the impact.

She said the pilot then requested a “call to go around” and not land.

For its part, the South Korean airline has said that it is currently not aware of any engine or mechanical problems.

Yoon Young-doo, the head of the airline has said that he was not ruling out human error but added the pilots were experienced veterans.

Analysts said that while it was too early to make any conclusions, the airline needed to act fast to recover from the incident.

“The first thing for Asiana to do is to really get down to the bottom of why this crash occurred,” said Chris De Lavigne.

“And if it is down to human error, make sure that it puts the procedures into place to ensure that it never happens again.”

However, he added that the airline had a good overall reputation and was “very well run”.

As for Boeing, analysts said that the incident was unlikely to have any impact on the plane maker’s reputation, not least because the airlines has so far ruled out any engine or mechanical problems.

The 777 aircraft is used by many major airlines and has a good safety record.

The only previous notable crash of a 777 plane occurred when a British Airways flight landed short of the runway at London’s Heathrow Airport in 2008.

A Vital Sign of Recovery for Canada’s Real Estate

Canada, a very large country, is a haven for real estate investors. The country is composed of ten provinces and three territories. If you are considering an investment in the real estate sector of the country, you can definitely expect a sizeable return of investment (ROI), taking into consideration the fact that Canada is a highly developed country, and there are plenty of investors who want to gain a foothold on the very promising Canadian Real Estate sector. Because of the very large expanse of land area comprising the territory of Canada, investors should have a very keen eye for the right real estate investments which will definitely net them a high return of investment.

Image via Flickr

How to know the Potential ROI of a said Property?

A prospective real estate investor, before purchasing land, acreages for sale, or any vacant land, should take into consideration several factors. First, you have to calculate and have good data on the annual income of the real property. Likewise, you should know the cost of all potential taxes and mortgages relative to the property. These numbers will definitely give you an overall idea of the possible return of investment from buying the property.

The formula for this is quite simple. You have to calculate the total amount of income you will get from a property; then, you should divide this total by the sale price of the property.

Likewise, one should know the Debt Coverage Ratio (DCR) involved in a property. Usually, the Debt Coverage Ratio (DCR) is calculated by dividing the Net Operating Income by the Annual Mortgage Payments. The minimum acceptable DCR is 1.25.

There are other ways you can get an idea of the ROI, like calculating the Cash-on-cash return (COC) by dividing the Cash flow of the investment before taxes.

Risk Management and Evaluation

Image via Flickr

In order to diminish the risk involved in any prospective real estate investment in Canada, one should be able to mitigate the risks involved or do a risk management and evaluation. Say for instance, you would like to purchase a property in Toronto; then, you should be wary of the different risks involved in the investments to be able to mitigate the risks involved in your investment.

Some of the risks involved in purchasing a property include fraudulent sales, adverse possession, building component failures, cash shortfall, economic downturn, market decline, and many more. A good and wise prospective buyer would take into consideration all these potential risks to diminish and mitigate them, and at the same time, be able to recuperate a higher return of investment from the property which one wants to buy.

Bright prospect of Real Estate Property Sales in Canada

In the recent years, the sales of recreational real estates are definitely rebounding across B.C., while residential property in Greater Vancouver are cooling and slowing down. There is a remarkable 22% rise in sales of recreational property in B.C. While vacation home prices likewise are beginning to peak up.

National home sales in Canada rose more than 0.6% from the months of March to April. Likewise, the Canadian housing market still remains in balanced territory. Moreover, the national average sale price definitely rose 1.3% on April. These statistics are good indications of the gradual rise in the sales of real property in Canada.

In the past two years, Toronto had suffered a relatively 36% decline in new condominium sales. These years include 2011 and 2012. There were an estimated 144 skyscrapers which are under construction in the late February in Toronto, Canada, which is comparatively higher than in any other part of the world. Yet, there is a remarkable resurgence in the sales of new condo units in 2013, giving prospective investors a positive glimpse of what could be a recuperating process in the return of investments in real estate properties in Canada. However, we could not help but think that the previous weakening of Canada’s economy—which is highly touted as an example of stability—may be an indication that Canada’s economy is in the process of stalling.

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s baby will be first to hold title Prince or Princess of Cambridge

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s baby will become the first ever Prince or Princess of Cambridge, Buckingham Palace has announced today.

The official title of the royal baby, thought to be due on Saturday, July 13, will be His or Her Royal Highness the Prince or Princess of Cambridge.

The baby will be born at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, where William was born in 1982.

The Mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Paul Saunders, said it was a “great honor” for the historic city.

“It is a great honor and I’m sure the people of Cambridge will appreciate it greatly,” he said.

“I think it’s lovely to continue the close link with the Royal family. I think anything which helps to keep Cambridge in the public eye is a good thing as we rely on tourism.”

Former Cambridge mayor Cllr Sheila Stewart, who met Kate Middleton on the royal visit to the city last year, believes having a prince or princess is a first for the city.

“When we did a lot of research after it was first announced that the couple were to get the title, nothing like that was found. There were some dukes of Cambridge but not a prince or princess,” she said.

The Dukedom of Cambridge was created in 1801 but became extinct on the death of the 2nd Duke of Cambridge in 1904.

It was bestowed upon Prince William on April 29, 2011, by the Queen on his wedding day.

A palace spokesman said: “The royal couple’s child will officially be known as His or Her Royal Highness the Prince or Princess of Cambridge.”

He said any other children the couple have will also be known by the same title.

Anticipation is mounting around the imminent birth, with photographers already camped out outside St Mary’s Hospital.

Once the baby has been safely delivered, Prince William’s first call will be to the Queen on an encrypted phone.

At the same time, the Royal couple’s private secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton will inform Prime Minister David Cameron and a small number of other highly placed individuals, including the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Back at Buckingham Palace, officials will notify the head of each of the 54 Commonwealth countries and the First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

For the public, an official notice announcing the birth will be placed in a glass-fronted easel and attached to the gates of the Palace.

Pope Francis visits Lampedusa island

Pope Francis has visited Italy’s tiny island of Lampedusa and condemned the “global indifference” to migrants’ plight during a Mass.

On arrival, Pope Francis threw a wreath in the sea in memory of the many people who have drowned trying to reach Europe.

A small boat carrying 166 Africans – reportedly Eritreans – arrived at Lampedusa’s port just hours before the Pope’s plane touched down.

The island is struggling to cope with thousands of illegal migrants.

Lampedusa, about 80 miles from Tunisia, is one of the nearest gateways to Europe for Africans fleeing poverty and conflict.

Tens of thousands of migrants have made the dangerous crossing in recent years, usually packed into rickety wooden boats exposed to the elements.

As Pope Francis arrived on a coast guard ship, dozens of Lampedusan fishing boats sailed in nearby.

The pontiff is on his first pastoral visit outside Rome since his election in March.

“Pope Francis, only you can save us,” read a banner on one of the boats.

Pope Francis visited migrant island of Lampedusa
Pope Francis visited migrant island of Lampedusa

“You’re one of us,” said a sign hanging from an apartment near the port.

Some residents threw flowers into the water and chanted “Viva il Papa” as his vessel docked.

Pope Francis, an Argentine Jesuit, met and spoke to a few migrants, then rode in an open-topped car – rather than the Popemobile often used by predecessors – to the site for Mass, near a “boat cemetery” where the hulks of shipwrecked migrant boats lie in the sun.

His altar was a small, painted boat.

The Pope called for a “reawakening of consciences” to counter the “indifference” shown to migrants.

“We have lost a sense of brotherly responsibility and have forgotten how to cry for migrants lost at sea,” he said.

He denounced the traffickers who exploited migrants and took great risks with their lives.

Pope Francis, whose own ancestors immigrated to Argentina from Italy, has previously stood in sympathy with impoverished illegal migrants.

Lampedusa’s native population of 6,000 is often outnumbered by thousands of migrants in improvised camps around the island.

The UN refugee agency says 8,400 migrants have landed in Italy and Malta in the first six months of the year, almost twice as many as last year, but down on 2011, when tens of thousands fled north Africa during the Arab Spring.

The migrants are normally transported to reception centres on the Italian mainland to be identified and ease the burden on Lampedusa.

Zara Phillips pregnant with her first baby

Zara Phillips, Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter, and her husband, rugby player Mike Tindall, are expecting their first baby in the new year, Buckingham Palace has announced.

Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall married at Canongate Kirk, in Edinburgh, in July 2011.

The birth will follow the arrival of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s baby, which is due this month.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “Mr. and Mrs. Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the new year.”

It went on: “The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, Mr. Phillip and Mrs. Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news.

“This baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara and the third grandchild for the Princess Royal.”

British PM David Cameron’s official spokesman described the announcement as “quite terrific news”.

He told reporters: “The prime minister will send his very, very best wishes to the happy couple.”

The new baby will become 16th in line to the throne and the fourth great grandchild to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

The others are Savannah and Isla Phillips, daughters of Zara’s brother, Peter, and the Duchess of Cambridge’s expected baby.

Zara Phillips is currently 14th in line to the throne, but does not hold a royal title and is not an HRH.

Her children will be titled Miss or Master Tindall.

Paris Jackson to recover at Diamond Ranch Academy boarding school after checking out of psychiatric facility

Paris Jackson is reportedly too fragile to return home following her June 5 suicide attempt and she is said to be transferring to a boarding school for struggling children when she checks out of psychiatric facility at the UCLA Medical Center.

According to The Sun and The New York Post, Paris Jackson, 15, who slashed her wrists and overdosed on pills will move into the $10 million Diamond Ranch Academy in Utah.

Her grandmother Katherine Jackson and mother Debbie Rowe allegedly want to ensure that she makes a full recovery and have already put a security team in place to protect Paris while in Utah.

“As far as Paris is concerned she is fine and is ready to go home, but the doctors and her family are not taking any chances. She tried to end her own life and it doesn’t get more serious than that,” a source close to the family said.

“They are terrified she will have a major relapse if she has access to Twitter and the Internet again – especially with all the shocking information that is coming out in the AEG wrongful death court case.”

The insider continued: “[The Diamond Ranch Academy] is a secluded treatment centre for 12 to 18-years-olds that specializes in depression and grief management.

“While she’s there she can be around kids going through similar problems and concentrate on getting well again, without pressures from the outside world and all the negativity on the Internet.”

The main issue at the moment is making sure that Michael Jackson’s daughter is protected from “dangerous obsessive fans” who might try to break into the facility.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West apparently took a step towards independence on July Fourth by toting their baby daughter North to a fun family party.

The party was at Bruce Jenner’s summer rental in Malibu, thrown on July 4th so the family could watch the public fireworks from their home.

It was apparently North West’s first family outing, according to Us Weekly.

North West, born five weeks early, left hospital June 21.

Party photos from that weekend show Kendall and Kylie Jenner playing by the water and hanging on the balcony with Kylie’s rumoured boyfriend, actor Jaden Smith.

Another source told the magazine Kim Kardashian, 32, and Kanye West, 36, are having a great time cooing over their daughter.

“They are both so in love with their little girl,” said the source.

Apparently Kanye West “doesn’t leave North for more than an hour”.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who have been dating for almost two years, have not detailed any plans for a wedding.

Egypt: At least 34 Mohamed Morsi loyalists killed in a shooting incident in Cairo

At least 34 Egyptians have been killed in a shooting incident in Cairo, say officials and the Muslim Brotherhood, amid continuing unrest over the removal of President Mohamed Morsi.

The Muslim Brotherhood says its members were fired on while they were holding a sit-in at a Presidential Guard barrack.

But the army said a “terrorist group” had tried to storm the barracks.

Mohamed Morsi, an Islamist and Egypt’s first freely elected president, was ousted by the army last week after mass protests.

Dozens of people have been killed since the unrest began last weekend.

Mohamed Morsi is believed to be held at the Presidential Guard Club, in the eastern Nasr City district of the capital.

His supporters – many of them members of the Muslim Brotherhood movement he comes from – have been staging a sit-in there demanding his reinstatement.

After Monday morning’s violence, the hardline Salafist Nour party – which had supported Mohamed Morsi’s removal – said it was withdrawing from talks to choose an interim prime minister, describing the shooting incident as a “massacre”.

There were conflicting reports from Cairo over how the violence had unravelled in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Muslim Brotherhood said the army raided its sit-in at about 04:00 as protesters were performing dawn prayers.

The Freedom and Justice Party, the Brotherhood’s political wing – which took nearly half the seats in last year’s historic election – called on Egyptian’s to stage an “uprising” in response to the incident, against “those trying to steal their revolution with tanks”.

It also urged “the international community and international groups and all the free people of the world to intervene to stop further massacres” and to stop Egypt becoming “a new Syria”.

But in a statement read on state media, the army blamed the shooting on “an armed terrorist group” that had tried to storm the barracks.

It said an army officer was among those killed and that a number of others were wounded, some critically.

The statement said some 200 people had been arrested and were found to have weapons, ammunition and petrol bombs.

TV channels broadcast images of dead and injured people being taken to a makeshift hospital in the Rabaa al-Adawiya mosque, where Brotherhood supporters have been based.

Nour party spokesman Nadder Bakkar said Nour had “decided to withdraw immediately from all negotiations in response to the massacre”.

Though the Islamist party had backed the army-led “roadmap” to new elections, it had been wary of the Muslim Brotherhood becoming isolated.

It had blocked the appointment of two potential prime ministers it thought would not include the movement in the political process.

Mohamed Morsi was replaced on Thursday by Adly Mansour – the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court. He has pledged to hold elections soon, but has as yet given no date for them.

The army has insisted it does not want to remain in power.

On Sunday, tens of thousands of both supporters and opponents of Mohamed Morsi rallied in many Egyptian cities.

San Francisco Boeing 777 crash: Aircraft was below its target speed and pilot tried to abort landing

Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 that crash-landed at San Francisco airport was “significantly below” its target speed near the runway and the pilot tried to abort the landing, US investigators say.

The pilot was flying into San Francisco for the first time at the controls of a 777, Asiana Airlines says.

The flight from Seoul with 307 people fell short of the runway on Saturday, killing two and injuring dozens.

The aircraft apparently hit a sea wall, ripping off its tail.

Passengers and crew escaped down emergency slides as it burst into flames.

Asiana Airlines confirmed that two female Chinese teenagers died in the crash. They had been seated at the back of the aircraft.

They are believed to be the first-ever fatalities in a Boeing 777 crash.

San Francisco’s coroner is currently trying to establish whether one of the two fatalities occurred after a passenger was run over by an emergency vehicle rushing to the scene of the crash.

At a news conference on Sunday, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chief Deborah Hersman said aircraft speed was below the planned 137 knots (158 mph; 254 km/h) as it approached the runway.

Citing information both from the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder, she said there was a call to increase the speed about two seconds before the impact.

The pilot then requested to abort the landing and “go around”, Deborah Hersman added.

Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 that crash-landed at San Francisco airport was “significantly below” its target speed near the runway and the pilot tried to abort the landing

“We have to take another look at the raw data and corroborate it with radar and air traffic information to make sure we have a very precise speed.

“But again, we are not talking about a few knots here or there. We’re talking about a significant amount of speed below 137,” she said.

Asked about possible reasons for this, Deborah Hersman stressed that “everything is on the table” and “it is too early to rule anything out”.

It has now emerged that although the pilot who was at the controls had nearly 10,000 flying hours – only 43 hours of those were on a Boeing 777.

Asiana Airlines said that Lee Kang-kook was assisted by another pilot who had more experience flying that type of aircraft.

Although he had flown into San Francisco 29 times at the controls of other types of aircraft, this was the first time he was doing so at the controls of a Boeing 777.

In a separate development, US officials confirmed that a navigation system helping pilots make safe descents was turned off for maintenance at San Francisco airport.

The Glide Path is used for landings in bad weather conditions; however, it was clear and sunny when the Asiana Airlines aircraft crashed on Saturday.

The twin-engine Boeing 777 has a good safety record for long-haul and is used by many major carriers.

The only previous notable crash occurred when a British Airways plane landed short of the runway at London’s Heathrow Airport in 2008.

Five people are in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital, hospital spokesperson Rachael Kagan said. Three others are being treated at Stanford Hospital.

About another 15 have yet to regain consciousness, said Margaret Knudson, interim surgery chief at the hospital,

Altogether 181 people were taken to hospital, mostly with minor injuries.

There were 291 passengers and 16 crew on board, Asiana said.

Nationalities on board included 141 Chinese, 77 South Koreans and 61 US citizens, the airline said.

India: Secunderabad City Light hotel collapse kills at least 12 people

At least 12 people have been killed in the City Light hotel collapse in the southern Indian city of Secunderabad, police says.

At least 18 more people were injured when the two-storey hotel came crashing down on Monday morning.

Police said it was not clear how many people were trapped under the debris at the hotel, located near Hyderabad.

Correspondents say such incidents are common in India and are often blamed on poor construction practices.

About 25 people were working at the hotel, located on a busy road in Secunderabad, when one of its kitchen walls collapsed, burying some of the employees, senior police official B Surender told the AFP news agency.

“The building was very old and the walls showed cracks, according to people working nearby,” he added.

Last month, nine people were killed in two separate building collapses in the western city of Mumbai.

In April, 74 people were killed in another building collapse on the outskirts of Mumbai.

George Clooney splits from Stacy Keibler after spending July 4 apart

George Clooney is reportedly splitting from girlfriend Stacy Keibler after they celebrated Independence Day separately.

The Sunday People claims George Clooney, who hasn’t been seen in public with Stacy Keibler for three months, called time on the relationship.

A source told the publication: “It’s not like George and Stacy couldn’t find time to get together if they really wanted to. George is quietly backing away from the relationship.

“It’s always the same. As soon as he feels a woman is getting too close he pulls back.”

Rumors started circulating that George Clooney and girlfriend Stacy Keibler are on the rocks even more this week as they spent July 4 apart.

George Clooney, 52, sent tongues wagging when he was pictured without Stacy Keibler celebrating July 4th with pals in Lake Como.

However, insiders close to the actor have denied any suggestion that the pair are no longer together.

While the actor was seen running to get on a boat to the Villa d’Este with friends, Stacy Keibler was with friends in Malibu.

Stacy Keibler posted pictures on her Instagram that showed her having a good time in Malibu, and seemed to make no mention of George Clooney.

A source told Radar earlier in the week: “She isn’t in Italy because she is working and shooting in New York and then doing a ton of press for her new show which launches on July 22.”

But the couple haven’t been pictured together since early March this year.

In May, George Clooney hit back at allegations that he was holding another woman’s hand on a night out in London.

The claims come in the face of rumors that the actor’s relationship with long term girlfriend Stacy Keibler is over.

In Touch reported that George Clooney was spotted holding the hand of his former flame and stunning Croatian model Monika Jakisic at Loulou’s members-only club in Mayfair, London.

George Clooney has been dating Stacy Keibler for just over a year and a half, and met just a month after the actor broke up with Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis.

Phil Robertson’s parenting advice for creating a close, happy family

Duck Dynasty’s patriarch Phil Robertson and his wife, Miss Kay, raised four rambunctious boys, who have all, at some point or another, worked with him – along with their wives – on the family’s duck call business.

So what’s Phil Robertson’s advice for creating such a close, happy family? He said his kids were raised with a balance of discipline and independence.

“We had a code. I told them that I’d give them three licks if they disrespected their mother, if they were fist fighting with each other, and if they ever tore up perfectly good equipment for no good reason,” Phil Robertson told FOX 411 back in May about his parenting style.

But that by no means meant he didn’t show his kids affection.

“I made sure we loved them and we taught them to love their neighbor.”

Phil Robertson said his kids were raised with a balance of discipline and independence
Phil Robertson said his kids were raised with a balance of discipline and independence

He added that he also made sure his kids knew how to take care of themselves.

“We had very few rules and regulations. I would say, <<If you want to stay up all night, that’s your prerogative>>,” he said.

“[For] getting up in the morning and catching the school bus, we didn’t go in there and say, <<time to get up>>. We taught them to be responsible.”

Phil Robertson said the boys were also taught a lot about respect.

“When it came to teachers I told them, <<You’re going to have great teachers, fair teachers and some are going to be poor but always remember they are your teacher. Shut up and sit down and obey them and get out with a fair grade and onto the next one>>. I backed the teachers no matter what,” he said.

The family’s close relationships can now be seen by millions, as they work together in front of the cameras.

Phil Robertson said he thinks the show is so popular because viewers enjoy watching a functional family working hard together.

Egypt: Tens of thousands of rival protesters take to streets

Tens of thousands of protesters are on the streets of Egyptian cities in rival shows of force by supporters and opponents of Mohamed Morsi, ousted as president by the military last week.

Mohamed Morsi’s supporters have gathered outside a mosque and a barracks in Cairo to demand his reinstatement.

Anti-Morsi protesters are rallying in the capital’s Tahrir Square.

Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s first Islamist president, is in detention, along with some senior Muslim Brotherhood figures.

He was replaced on Thursday by Adly Mansour – the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court – who promised to hold elections soon but gave no date.

The military has deployed troops in Cairo and other locations. More than 30 people were killed and about 1,000 people injured across Egypt in protests on Friday.

Mohamed Morsi’s supporters have been camped outside the Rabaa al-Adawiya mosque in Cairo for more than a week. On Sunday, thousands marched from the mosque to the barracks of the Presidential Guard, where they believe Mohamed Morsi is being held.

Another group of pro-Morsi marchers are heading for the ministry of defense.

Tamarod, the opposition movement whose name means “rebel” in Arabic, called on its supporters to rally in Tahrir Square and at the Ittihadiya presidential palace.

Egypt military planes flew overhead, trailing plumes of smoke in red, white and black, the colors of the national flag.

There is still no word on whether pro-reform leader Mohamed Elbaradei has been appointed as interim prime minister.

Tamarod has tweeted that it will not accept anyone except Mohamed ElBaradei, a Nobel laureate and former head of the UN nuclear agency, as prime minister.

However, the ultra-conservative Salafist al-Nour party is said to be unhappy with Mohamed ElBaradei, whom its members view as too secular.

In other developments, plain-clothes police raided the main office of al-Jazeera’s Arabic TV channel in Cairo on Sunday and arrested the bureau chief.

Abdel Fattah Fayed is accused of operating an unlicensed channel and broadcasting reports that had a negative impact on national security.

Meanwhile, 11 activists have been acquitted of inciting violence and destroying public property, the Egyptian state news agency Mena reported.

The group – which included the blogger Ahmed Douma – was facing charges relating to clashes with Muslim Brotherhood supporters outside the organization’s headquarters in March.

Tamarod – which organized the recent anti-Morsi protests – had accused the ousted president of pursuing an Islamist agenda against the wishes of most Egyptians, and of failing to tackle economic problems.

The US and other Western countries have expressed concern over Mohamed Morsi’s removal, and have called for reconciliation and speedy elections.

Saatchi and Nigella divorce: Charles Saatchi announces divorce from Nigella Lawson after chocking photos

Charles Saatchi has announced he is divorcing his wife, the television chef Nigella Lawson.

The announcement follows the publication of photographs which showed art collector Charles Saatchi with his hands around Nigella Lawson’s throat at a London restaurant in June.

Charles Saatchi, 70, who accepted a police caution for assault, told the Mail on Sunday he had “clearly been a disappointment” to his wife.

He said it was a “heartbreaking” decision for him.

Charles Saatchi said the couple had “become estranged and drifted apart” over the past year.

“I am sorry to announce that Nigella Lawson and I are getting divorced,” he told the newspaper.

“I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way.”

“I am sorry that we had a row. I am sorry she was upset. I am even more sorry that this is the end of our marriage,” he added.

The pictures of the couple at a restaurant in Mayfair, central London, showed Charles Saatchi grasping his wife’s neck.

The images, which were first published in the Sunday People, provoked a public debate about domestic violence among the rich and famous.

Charles Saatchi dismissed the incident as “a playful tiff” but later accepted a police caution for assault, saying he had done so to stop the incident “hanging over” them.

Nigella Lawson has made no comment since the incident.

Charles Saatchi, a former advertising executive, is a well known art collector and owner of the Saatchi Gallery.

He donated his Chelsea art gallery, including more than 200 works of art, to the British public in 2010.

Charles Saatchi and Nigella Lawson have been married since 2003.

She has two children, Cosima and Bruno, from her marriage to journalist John Diamond, who died in 2001.

Nigella Lawson first began a restaurant column in The Spectator in 1985 and by the following year had become deputy literary editor of The Sunday Times.

She then went on to write the book How to Eat, followed by the award-winning book, How to be a Domestic Goddess.

Nigella Lawson’s television cookery programmes – including Nigella Bites and Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen – have brought her international fame.

Kickstarter project: MoS Atlas socks infused with coffee promise to spell the end to smelly feet

A revolutionary Kickstarter project – carbonized coffee fused into futuristic socks – promises to spell the end to stinky feet as it filters and adsorbs sweat and odor.

UK’s Ministry of Supply (MoS), who designed the garment, hope for £20,000 ($30,000) of funding but with more than two weeks to go until the opportunity to back them ends, they have already surpassed their goal four times over.

MoS’ previous inventions include the £65 ($100) Apollo 2 dress shirt, a revolutionary garment that got widespread recognition.

The shirt is made using anti-microbial fabric with moisture wicking qualities and NASA heat-regulation technology.

The high-tech firm has now turned their hands to socks for their latest sartorial innovation.

Named Atlas, MoS once again evoke ancient Greece for the name of their invention. The garment comes with a promise of cool and comfortable feet thanks in part to coffee.

The socks are made from a mix of cotton, recycled polyester and carbonized coffee which filters and absorbs sweat and odor to keep feet cool. MoS say that this is exactly how a Brita water filter works.

MoS Atlas socks infused with coffee promise to spell the end to smelly feet
MoS Atlas socks infused with coffee promise to spell the end to smelly feet

Carbonized coffee “attracts molecules” (composed mostly of carbon) with its spongy structure. The trapped molecules are released in the wash, ready for a whole new dose of smells the next time they’re worn.

The coffee is reclaimed from coffee roasting factories and shops and then subjected to a pharmaceutical process to remove oils and that coffee smell. It is then infused into the company’s recycled polyester yarns.

Atlas has undergone lab tests that MoS claims showed it to be three times more effective at absorbing smells than regular cotton.

The firm used 3D strain analysis to visualize how the skin stretches in 3D and adjusts, so that the sock doesn’t have to bend and stretch to accommodate foot movements as conventional socks do.

They also used pressure mapping to locate points that require extra support, a similar to technology used in the production of customized orthotics. This technique combined with thermal imaging identified hot spots and help improve ventilation.

They “hope to provide new levels of comfort that were not previously possible”.

MoS says the socks are durable, easily passing the eight month stress-test.

Manufacturing will be outsourced to specialist textile mills that use techniques such as robotic knitting, which MoS says is like 3D printing but for knitwear.

MoS has poured as much clothing technology into ATLAS as it can, even down to the robotic knitting machines it uses to make the coffee socks.

Robotic knitting machines are like 3D printers for clothing, and offers the same level of precision and customization industry 3D printers provide.

The sock project is now fully funded on Kickstarter four times over, so the MoS team’s goal to product the garment in a variety of colors other than black is most likely to become a reality.

The Atlas performance dress socks, a “Brita filter for your feet”, will come in medium and large and will cost £18 ($28) for two pairs. The project is still open for funding on Kickstarter for another 15 days.

Reebok heat-to fit U-form Plus: Trainers designed to shrink-to-fit using heat from hairdryer

Reebok has brought out the new U-form Plus trainer, literally the hottest running shoe on the market, designed to shrink-to-fit using heat from your hairdryer.

As anyone who has worn ill-fitting trainers knows, there is nothing like a blister or a twisted angle to sabotage even the most dedicated runner, ad these hi-tech new shoes aim to put an end to these annoyances.

They look like normal high-end sneakers, but they come with instructions about how to put them under the hair dryer before hitting the treadmill.

Exclusive to InterSport, the Reebok U-Form+ are different from the original Reebok U-Form, which needed to be put into the oven for three minutes.

The unique U-Form+ material is inside the shoe, starting in the mid-foot and wrapping around the heel.

You hold a hair dryer about 10 cm away from the shoes, off your feet, for 2 minutes to heat them up, before putting them on and lacing them up tightly.

Reebok has brought out the new U-form Plus trainer designed to shrink-to-fit using heat from your hairdryer
Reebok has brought out the new U-form Plus trainer designed to shrink-to-fit using heat from your hairdryer

The material is secured around the foot by the lacing system, so when it’s laced it locks down around your foot and heel.

It then ‘fits’ round your foot, supposedly giving a perfect fit and improving running performance.

The original U-Form trainers go into a preheated oven at 93 degrees Celsius for three minutes, until the “U-Form” tab turns red.

Assuming you haven’t over-cooked your trainers, they should be warm but not too hot to put on.

You then lace them up to your preferred tightness and wear them, while seated, for eight minutes.

As they cool they shrink round your feet, and in the sitting position they should give optimal support to your feet, ankles and leg muscles.

Available in both men and women’s sizes, the U-form trainers cost $150, and while some amateurs might balk at spending that on something you might accidentally set on fire, running enthusiasts seem to be willing to go to any length to get the perfect fit.

In an atmosphere reminiscent of his Olympic final win last summer, Andy Murray was willed on by the majority of the 15,000 spectators on Centre Court, thousands watching on the nearby big screen and millions more around the country.

And after a gruelling three hours and 10 minutes in temperatures exceeding 40C (104F), Andy Murray finally followed in the footsteps of Fred Perry’s 1936 win at the All England Club.

Fred Perry used to leap over the net in celebration, but Britain’s new champion roared in delight before sinking to his knees on the turf.

The final game had been a battle in itself, with Andy Murray seeing three match points slip by from 40-0 and fending off three Novak Djokovic break points with some fearless hitting, before the Serb netted a backhand to end the contest.

Andy Murray then headed into the stands to celebrate with his family and support team, before parading the trophy around Centre Court.

North Korea and South Korea agree to reopen Kaesong industrial complex

North Korea and South Korea have agreed in principle to reopen the Kaesong industrial complex after official talks.

The deal, which includes facilities inspections, was reached after marathon talks held at the truce village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone.

Work at the factory park was halted in April amid high regional tensions.

Correspondents say the closure of Kaesong, seen as a symbol of inter-Korean ties, showed how serious this year’s political tensions were.

The industrial complex is a major source of income for the North.

Attempts to hold high-level talks last month failed on procedural grounds.

The meeting on the North Korea side of Panmunjom started on Saturday and lasted at least 15 hours.

North Korea and South Korea have agreed in principle to reopen the Kaesong industrial complex

Officials will meet at Kaesong on Wednesday to “restart operations, prevent an operation suspension in the future and normalize the zone as soon as both sides are ready to do so”, South Korea’s chief delegate Suh Ho told reporters after the talks.

“We got an impression that the North was very willing to resolve the Kaesong issue and is making great efforts as well,” Suh Ho said.

As part of the deal, both sides agreed to allow South Korean company managers to inspect their factories, as well as retrieve finished goods and raw materials.

Prior to operations being suspended, there were around 120 South Korean businesses in the factory park. The firms have been unable to reach their goods for three months.

Some have since threatened to abandon the zone entirely and relocate their equipment.

Seoul suggested the working-level talks on Thursday, a day after Pyongyang said Seoul businessmen could visit the closed complex to inspect and maintain equipment.

Late on Thursday, North Korea accepted the offer, the South said.

Pyongyang withdrew its 53,000 workers from the complex in April, apparently angered by tightened UN sanctions in the wake of its nuclear test in February, and annual South Korea-US military drills.

North Korea also prevented South Korean workers from entering the joint commercial zone.

The last South Korean workers left the zone on May 3.
