The current estimated jackpot for Powerball lottery has reached $900 million – the largest jackpot in American lottery history.
With this possible payout for January 9 draw, lottery fever in the US has resulted in long queues outside ticket vendors, driving up the jackpot value.
The rise means that an individual could take home about $558 million if they choose a lump-sum prize.
The winner must match five numbers between one and 69 and a sixth number between 1 and 26.
Powerball lottery is played in 44 of 50 states and three American territories. It takes place each Wednesday and Saturday at 22:59 PM.
Lottery officials quoted in several outlets say the odds of winning are one in 292 million.
