David Siegel’s Westgate Resorts announced last month that it has added 1,500 new positions in 2014.
According to a news release, 775 new positions were added in Central Florida.
A spokesman for the timeshare resort company, Frank Blanco, said the hiring represents actual growth in the full-time and part-time workforce and not just seasonal hiring. Frank Blanco said almost half the new positions, 673, are in sales and are based on commission.
“Our total employment currently stands at 8,236. Last year at this time, it was less than 7,000,” he said.
Among the new positions are 150 employees Westgate Resorts took on when it purchased the Cocoa Beach Pier recently, according to the news release.
David Siegel said in the release that Westgate Resorts was in the “best financial position it has ever been in its 44-year existence”.
