Michael Jace has been charged with murder after his wife, April Jace, was shot and killed at their home in Los Angeles.
Actor Michael Jace, 51, played a police officer in FX drama The Shield.
He could face between 50 years and life in state prison if convicted.
Police said Michael Jace shot April Jace, 40, multiple times on Monday. He was at the house when officers arrived.
The couple’s two young sons were at home at the time of the killing.
They are now with relatives, police have said.
Michael Jace is being held in lieu of $2 million bail and is set to appear in court on Thursday for the first time.
Earlier this week, Officer Chris No said police arrived athe couple’s home on Monday evening after a report of shots being fired.
According to TMZ, Michael Jace called police himself to report the shooting.
In March 2011, Michael Jace filed for bankruptcy protection, with debts of between $500,000 and $1 million.
Much of the debt appeared to relate to his home as well as more than $22,000 owed in state and federal income taxes.
In documents submitted at the time, April Jace was listed as a public school teacher with more than 10 years’ experience.
In a statement listing his possessions, Michael Jace marked down that he didn’t own any firearms.
There are no records of any criminal cases involving the actor in Los Angeles.
Michael and April Jace were married for nine years while Jace has another child from a previous relationship.
