Kris Humphries claimed Kim Kardashian only married him for publicity.
However, Kim Kardashian, 32, hit back at her estranged husband’s protestations as she sat through a secret 9-hour divorce deposition at her lawyer’s office on Tuesday.
Insisting she didn’t tie the knot with Kris Humphries to boost ratings for her reality show, Kim Kardashian maintained she “really did love” the basketball player when he popped the question.
According to TMZ, Kim Kardashian “testified under oath” that her intentions were genuine when she accepted Kris Humphries’ marriage proposal, despite the union only going on to last for 72 days.
Accompanied by her lawyer Laura Wasser, Kim Kardashian affirmed that the success of her reality show “played no part in her decision to tie the knot”.
Lee Hutton, the lawyer representing Kris Humphries throughout the divorce proceedings, was probing for evidence to prove that Kim Kardashian married the sports star to boost ratings and consequently “defrauded” him.
While Kris Humphries is hoping for an annulment – rather than a divorce – based on the count of fraud, sources have told TMZ the lengthy deposition “didn’t help his case”.
Kris Humphries didn’t turn up for the hearing, and Lee Hutton is said to have “not asked much at all about the reality show and whether it was staged”, despite previously threatening to “blow the lid off” the alleged fraud.
Kim Kardashian filed for divorce on October 31, 2011, citing irreconcilable differences after just 72 days of marriage.
The case will finally come to trial on May 6, nineteen months after the reality star originally filed for divorce, with Kris Humphries alleging that the entire nuptials were a fraud and that Kim Kardashian only married him for the sake of her reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
The court case gives Kim Kardashian a chance to obtain her divorce before the birth of her first child with rapper boyfriend Kanye West, which is due in July.
