Nadia Christine Diaz, a substitute teacher in Fresno, California, who allegedly had sex with a 15-year-old pupil, begged God’s forgiveness after her “terrible mistake”.
Nadia Christine Diaz, now 26, had sex with the 15-year-old student in January and February 2010, according to a statement filed by a police detective in court last week.
She faces charges of sex with a minor and oral copulation after the alleged liaisons with the teenager from Washington Union High School in Fresno.
According to the Fresno Bee newspaper, the student had asked his teacher for her cell phone number and soon their text messages turned to sex talk.
The teenager told Detective Juan Galindo that he first had sex with Nadia Christine Diaz in January 2010 at a friend’s house.
The next month, Nadia Christine Diaz and the student met again at the friend’s home in the afternoon while the friend was at work to have sex.
“The boy said they stopped talking after the second sexual encounter because rumors began to spread around the school that they were seeing each other,” Detective Juan Galindo wrote in an affidavit.
These rumors prompted the school’s head teacher Principal Derek Cruz and District Assistant Superintendent Joey Campbell to confront Nadia Christine Diaz last September.
When Joey Campbell identified the student, Nadia Christine Diaz asked God to forgive her, according to the Fresno Bee.
Nadia Christine Diaz is out on $60,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at Fresno County Superior Court on December 20.
Her lawyer, Rick Berman, insisted she has been the victim of malicious rumors.
Rick Berman said: “Nadia was arrested based on some rumors that the school district heard.”
District officials met with teachers at Washington Union to inform them of the situation and how to deal with questions from students.
Three additional counselors were brought on to campus to support students.
The student said to have had sex with Nadia Christine Diaz is now a senior at the school.
After being a substitute teacher, Nadia Christine Diaz was later hired as a full-time science teacher at Washington Union High School. She has since resigned from her post.
