HP tablet, TouchPad will be sold by Best Buy at clearance prices – if any tablet is left – after reports that the retailer was sending its stock of the tablets back to the manufacturer.
Hewlett -Packard has said it will discontinue operations for HP tablet, TouchPad, and its WebOS system, potentially impacting many who buy the fire sale product at a loss for service and updates in the future. After this announcement, many shoppers have been searching for the HP tablet ever since it was heavily discounted on Friday.
HP’s promised hot new tablet product, the TouchPad, has turned in an instant into an embarrassing fire sale flop.
HP tablet’s liquidation sale, selling 16GB units for $99 and 32GB for $149 is attracting buyers, but affecting the brand and leaving many question marks.
Initially, the HP tablet’s stock was offered through BestBuy.com in Canada, but they soon sold out online.
Already on Saturday, with so many units sold in a flurry as retailers across the world slashed prices, the company’s call center blew up.
Demand of callers with questions and service needs was more than the unit could hand and its online database spun with errors as at the IT company’s server designated to handle HP tablet TouchPad sales and service was overwhelmed.
Best Buy retailers have told people they were sending their HP tablet stock back to Hewlett-Packard, leaving those customers out of the feeding frenzy.
While still not offering the HP tablet online, Best Buy has apparently changed its tune, saying on its website that it will sell any HP tablet it still has in stores at the discounted prices of $99 for the Wi-Fi-only 16GB device and $149 for the 32GB version. Because of the HP tablet fire sale price, there are restrictions, if you do score a TouchPad at Best Buy, you won’t be able to return it and the 1 year manufacturer’s warranty is available only through HP and not Best Buy.
