Metallica has closed this year’s Sonisphere rock festival at Knebworth Park, England, with a set chosen almost entirely by the band’s fans.
A week after they headlined Glastonbury, Metallica played for more than two hours.
They covered Thin Lizzy’s Whiskey in the Jar and ended their set with Seek and Destroy from their first album.
Lars Ulrich thanked the crowd after finishing before being driven off site in a convoy of people carriers.
“Between last weekend and this one, we always love being back on your shores and we will be back again very soon,” he said.
Metallica have been touring their fan-chosen By Request sets across Europe during July.
At Hertfordshire’s Knebworth House, Metallica played tracks from throughout their career including Master of Puppets, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman with …And Justice For All winning a text vote which took place on the final day of the festival.
