Oprah Winfrey gets cut off on WGN Morning News

Oprah Winfrey was in mid-sentence during her interview with Chicago-based TV station WGN’s Morning News show on Tuesday, when the call was abruptly disconnected.

Oprah Winfrey, 59, was the first guest on the new expanded hour of the show to discuss her role in the recently released film Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

The talk show maven was telling the four anchors about her Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) lineup that evening, when a woman’s voice was heard saying “transfer” followed by a dial tone.

The anchors collectively cried out in dismay when they realized they had in effect hung up on the star, and immediately started voicing their frustration while on the air.

“This is so typical,” WGN anchor Robin Baumgarten said.

“How do we cut off the one guest we’ve had that people might be interested in watching?”

“We are such a pack of morons,” she continued, scrumpling up a piece of paper and throwing it at the camera.

After a pause, Oprah Winfrey actually called the station back, according to the show’s Twitter page.

“Ok, you all have a few kinks to work out,” said Oprah Winfrey, confirming the problem wasn’t on her end.

“It definitely wasn’t me.”

“I’m just sitting here on the phone talking and all of a sudden music comes in and I’m like, <<Okay, I guess that’s my cue>>,” Oprah Winfrey said.

“It’s like you’re standing at an award show and the music starts. Oh, okay, that’s my cue to shut up.”

Oprah Winfrey sounded unimpressed as she briskly wrapped up the conversation.

“She was ticked,” said a male anchor after the second call.

“We were having a connection and you bozos screwed it up,” said anchor Robin Baumgarten, referring to her male co-hosts.

WGN later tweeted about the incident, calling it the “biggest goof since the #BridgeFail”, another of the station’s famous gaffes.
