Paul Gascoigne, 46, who left rehab in the USA earlier this year, was taken into custody following the incident at Stevenage, Hertfordshire, on Thursday.
The former Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton and Rangers player was later released without charge, police said.
The Mirror reported a security guard and Paul Gascoigne’s ex-wife Cheryl were assaulted in the incident.
A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to a report of a man allegedly being drunk and disorderly at Stevenage railway station at 10:30pm on Thursday 4 July.
“Officers attended the location and arrested a 46-year-old male on suspicion of common assault and being drunk and disorderly.”
According to the Mirror, Paul Gascoigne was held in a cell for 12 hours overnight.
Paul Gascoigne, who has struggled with alcoholism in the past, was treated at a clinic in Arizona earlier this year following an appearance at a charity event in which he was visibly unwell.
