Kert Clyde Jordan, 35 from Grenada, works as a waiter on the Miami-based Carnival Liberty. The waiter was charged with engaging in a sexual act with a person under the age of 16.
The Liberty sails from The Port of Miami to the eastern and western Caribbean, with routes passing through San Juan, St Maarten, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman.
Kert Clyde Jordan is accusing of coaxing the girl into a bathroom on the Lido deck.
The girl waited until she and her parents were returning home to tell them of the alleged attack, police said.
Carnival Cruises Lines has been cooperative in the investigation, the Sun Sentinel reported.
“Carnival has a zero tolerance policy from crime and we take any allegations of crime extremely serious,” Carnival said in a statement.
Carnival houses its headquarters in Miami, and offers cruises on its 23-ship fleet to places like The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England, and Bermuda.
A pre-trial hearing is set for December 1 in Miami.
This isn’t the first case of underage sexual assault seen by Carnival Cruise Lines in recent memory.
Only ten days ago, Dylan Cole Bloodsworth, 19, from Alabama, was sentenced to ten years in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl on-board a Carnival cruise in Mexico.
According to court records, he met the girl when she too was on a holiday cruise with her family in March.
Dylan Cole Bloodsworth talked her into accompanying him to get a jacket from his cabin and raped her, according to U.S. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Murphy.
